Abstract: A composition for prevention or treatment of metabolic syndrome or for antioxidation includes black soybean leaf extracts and flavonol glycoside compounds isolated thereof as active ingredients. It has been confirmed that the black soybean leaf extracts and the flavonol glycoside compounds isolated thereof effectively inhibit α-glucosidase activity; LDL oxidation and DDP-4; have excellent DPPH radical scavenging activity; inhibitory activity of reactive oxygen species (ROS) accumulation; effectively promote insulin secretion; regulate the expression of major genes; have an excellent ability to reduce a waist/hip circumference ratio; decrease the concentrations of plasma free fatty acid and plasma triglyceride; increase the concentration of plasma HDL-cholesterol; decrease an atherogenic index; increase erythrocyte catalase, SOD and GR activities; decrease erythrocyte lipid peroxide TBARS; decrease the concentrations of inflammatory cytokines MCP-1 and PAI-1, and resistin; and increase the concentration of plasma adiponectin.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a composition for preventing or treating asthma comprising a Pistacia weinmannifolia J. Poiss. ex Franch extract or a fraction thereof. The Pistacia weinmannifolia J. Poiss. ex Franch extract or the fraction thereof according to the present invention does not exhibit toxicity, inhibits the generation of NO, IL-4, IL-5, and IL-13 and the generation of reactive oxygen species in the bronchial tubes, and has significantly induced the alleviation of airway hyperresponsiveness, inhibition of the infiltration of inflammatory cells into the bronchial tubes, and reduction of inflammatory cells in bronchoalveolar lavage fluid in an ovalbumin-induced asthma mouse model. In addition, the Pistacia weinmannifolia J. Poiss. ex Franch extract or the fraction thereof according to the present invention effectively inhibits the secretion of immunoglobulins in serum, secretion of mucus in the bronchial tubes, and infiltration of inflammatory cells into lung tissue and thus can be usefully used as a safe preparation for preventing and treating asthma.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a method for producing cholinergic neurons comprising obtaining neural progenitor cells from stem cells so as to continuously produce cholinergic neural cells with high purity and the same traits, followed by differentiating the neural progenitor cells into the cholinergic neurons, and cholinergic neurons produced therefrom. Since the method of preparing the cholinergic neurons provided in the present invention enables not only production of the cholinergic neurons with high purity, but also rapid production of the cholinergic neurons with the same traits, it can be widely used for effectively treating degenerative cranial nerve diseases such as Alzheimer's disease.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a method for producing medium chain diol and, more particularly to recombinant microorganisms in which fatty alcohol dehydrogenase and/or fatty alcohol oxidase genes on a ω-oxidative metabolism pathway are deleted, the fatty aldehyde dehydrogenase genes are optionally deleted, and β-oxidative metabolism pathway-related genes are deleted, and to a method for producing medium chain diol from fatty acid-derived alcohol or alkane by culturing the recombinant microorganisms. The recombinant microorganisms of the present invention can produce a high yield of medium chain diol by preventing further oxidation and β-oxidative metabolism of fatty alcohols.
