摘要:
A vehicle including a bumper assembly includes a bumper reinforcement beam that extends generally in a vehicle lateral direction. The bumper reinforcement beam has a front face, a rear face opposite the front face and a top extending between the front face and the rear face. A bumper cover is located above the bumper reinforcement beam in a vehicle vertical direction. A bumper cover reinforcement includes an anchor portion supported on the bumper reinforcement beam and a bumper cover support portion extending outwardly from the anchor portion toward the bumper cover. The bumper cover support portion is arranged and configured to resist a downward force applied to the bumper cover in the vehicle vertical direction.

A vehicle bumper reinforcement structure to increase energy absorption capacity is provided. The vehicle bumper reinforcement structure comprises a base member extending in the width direction of the vehicle that is attached to the vehicle at both width ends, and a first reinforcement member and a second reinforcement member attached to the base member at a width center of the vehicle. Widths of the reinforcement members are differentiated in such a manner to cause fracture of the base member at width ends of the reinforcement members by a predetermined collision impact applied to the width center of the base member.

A protective member such as a helmet includes an outer layer and an inner layer interconnected by multiple connectors, such as extension springs, under tension along their longitudinal axis. The connectors absorb energy from an impact force by resisting further tension along their longitudinal axis and allow the outer layer and inner layer to move relative to each other. In the helmet application, the head of a user experiences less impact force, reduced change in momentum or position of the head and neck, reduced head and neck loads and reduced amounts of linear and rotational acceleration. The protective member can be used in numerous applications and environments, including for participants in sports, in applications including bumpers, passenger cabins, car seats and beds.

A bumper module including a body portion that is positioned between a front bumper cover and a heat exchanger in a vehicle front-and-rear direction and is disposed extending in a vehicle width direction and the vehicle front-and-rear direction; plural longitudinal ribs that are integrally formed on a lower surface of the body portion, extend toward a vehicle lower side, are disposed extending in the vehicle front-and-rear direction, and are lined up at intervals apart from each other in the vehicle width direction; and an air guide rib that is integrally formed on an upper surface of the body portion, extends toward a vehicle upper side, guides cooling air from a vehicle front to the heat exchanger, and whose front end is unaligned in at least one direction of the vehicle width direction and the vehicle front-and-rear direction with respect to front ends of the plural longitudinal ribs.

An impact-absorbing compressible member includes a thin-walled enclosure defining an inner chamber containing a volume of fluid such as air. The enclosure includes one or more orifices which as sized and positioned to allow air to vent from the inner chamber in response to an impact on the member and to refill the inner chamber in response to an impact on the member and to refill the inner chamber after the impact is released. The enclosure is formed of a blow-molded thermoplastic elastomer (TPE) material which is economical to make and durable in use. The compressible members can be used as building blocks for impact-absorbing shell structures for a wide variety of application such helmets, protective pads for body parts, sports arena wall padding, vehicular bumpers, dashboards and the like. The compressible member has impact-absorbing advantages over conventional foams currently used in those applications.

In an embodiment, a method of absorbing energy comprises: impacting a portion of a vehicle comprising a coil energy absorber, and compressing and plastically deforming the coil energy absorber. The coil energy absorber has an initial height and is located between the support structure and the covering, and wherein the coil energy absorber absorbs energy upon impact such that, after the impact, the coil energy absorber has a final height that is less than or equal to 90% of the initial height. The coil energy absorber is made of plastic. The coil energy absorber is located between a fascia and a support structure of the vehicle.

A bumper assembly for an automotive vehicle comprises a bumper beam for connection to a frame of the vehicle and an energy absorbing component extending laterally adjacent a front surface of the bumper beam. The energy absorbing component comprises a plurality of laterally-spaced bands, each band comprising an upper wall, a lower wall, and a forward wall. The bands are connected along adjacent rear edges of the upper walls and/or adjacent rear edges of the lower walls, such that the bands are decoupled from one another forward of the rear edges. This construction allows the bands to deform individually during a pedestrian collision, the upper and lower walls buckling to absorb energy in an optimum manner. The energy absorbing component may be attached to the bumper beam by upper and/or lower lateral strips have mounting features for fitting into interference-fit engagement with mating features on the bumper beam.

A bumper beam for a vehicle has a hat beam profile, i.e. a generally U-shaped cross-section with the crown (12-16) pointing outwards. In each attachment region (20) it h a transverse bulkhead (25) fastened between the crown's sides (12,13) and running generally in the longitudinal direction of the vehicle.

A vehicle bumper system includes an elongated reinforcement beam for mounting to a vehicle frame and an energy absorber abutting a front surface of the reinforcement beam. The energy absorber includes longitudinally-elongated hollow crush lobes configured to crush and absorb energy upon a vehicle crash, the crush lobes including interconnected top, bottom, side and front walls. At least one opposing pair of the walls, such as the top and bottom walls, are elongated parallel a length of the beam to define enlarged areas that are generally unsupported, but the one pair of walls further include a plurality of spaced external ribs extending perpendicular to the length for stabilizing the enlarged areas.
