Abstract: A method of making wire rope which when finished comprises a plural number of wires assembled in a twisted state. Each of said wires is first electroplated with zinc and thence diametrically adjusted as to its length by the application of a cold working thereto. Then the wire rope is further electroplated with tin thereby obtaining corrosion-proof and solderable property besides becoming resistant against friction and the like due to its surface lubrication in comparison with conventional wire ropes.

The cord mass is from 35 g/m to 65 g/m, and the ratio of flexural rigidity G (N·mm2) to cord cross section A (mm2), G/A (N) is from 400 N to 650 N.

Abstract: A wire strand (10) comprises a plurality of wires (12, 16, 20). The wires comprise a central king wire (12), a first layer (14) of wires (16) arranged around the king wire, and a second layer (18) of wires (20) arranged around the first layer. The king wire is formed of steel having a carbon content of at least 0.3 wt %. Each wire of the first layer is formed of steel having a carbon content which is less than the carbon content of the king wire. Each wire of the second layer is formed of steel having a carbon content which is greater than, or the same as, the carbon content of the wires of the first layer.

The rope for the elevator comprises: a center strand formed by twisting a plurality of wires; inner layer strands formed by twisting the plurality of wires and arranged along the outer periphery of the center strand; and outer layer strands formed by twisting the plurality of wires and arranged along the outer periphery of the inner layer strands, wherein ten of each of the inner layer strands and the outer layer strands are prepared, the diameter of the center strand, the diameter of the inner layer strand and the diameter of the outer layer strand are respectively 0.33-0.35 times, 0.13-0.15 times and 0.22-0.24 times as large as the diameter of a first imaginary circle circumscribed around the outer layer strands, and a fill factor is 64-67%.

Abstract: A metal cord has an M+N construction with two concentric layers. An internal first layer or core includes M wire(s) of diameter d1, M having a value from 1 to 4. An external second layer includes N wires of diameter d2 and is positioned around the core, the N wires being wound in a helix. Between the wires of the two layers are gaps, some or all of which include a filling rubber based on an unsaturated thermoplastic elastomer. The filling rubber may be, for example, based on an SBS or an SIS block copolymer. When used in a molten state, the thermoplastic elastomer presents no problem due to unwanted stickiness if the filling rubber overspills outside the cord after manufacture. The unsaturated and therefore (co)vulcanizable nature of the thermoplastic elastomer makes it compatible with diene rubber matrices used as calendering rubber in metal fabrics intended for reinforcing tires.
