Abstract:
In a V-type engine, intake and exhaust rocker arms in each bank are arranged in a substantially inverted-V-shape in a plan view, so that side end portions of corresponding intake and exhaust push rods are positioned adjacent to each other. Slipper portions of first and second intake cam followers have end portions at one end along the axial direction of a camshaft protrude respectively in opposite directions to each other so that they face each other across an intake cam therebetween. Slipper portions of first and second exhaust cam followers have end portions at one end along the axial direction of the camshaft protrude respectively in opposite directions to each other so that they face each other across an exhaust cam therebetween. This reduces the distance between the push rods in each bank to provide a compact valve-operating device.
Abstract:
An adjustable valve rocker lever (1) of a valve timing gear of an internal combustion engine comprising an inner lever (3) and an outer lever (4) enclosing the former with its arms (2), the levers (3, 4) being connectable to one another by longitudinally displaceable coupling links (6) in such a way that a large valve lift is generated when coupled and a small valve lift is generated when decoupled, the levers (3, 4) run on a common axis (5), which viewed in the longitudinal direction is arranged between a complementary face (11) for a support element on the inner lever (3) and lifting faces (12, 13) for the lifting cams on upper sides of the levers (3, 4), wherein by virtue of its axis (5), situated close to the pivot point, such a valve rocker lever (1) has only a small mass moment of inertia about this pivot point.
Abstract:
A valve timing control system for an internal combustion engine, which is capable of accurately and delicately controlling an amount of intake air, and thereby maintaining excellent combustion state and reduced exhaust emissions. The valve timing control system variably controls the valve-closing timing of an intake valve with respect to valve-opening timing of the same as desired via a variable intake valve actuation assembly. The ECU of the engine determined a basic value of a target auxiliary intake cam phase according to the demanded drive torque of the engine. The ECU calculates a control input to the variable intake valve actuation assembly such that the cylinder intake air amount converges to a target intake air amount and at the same time the auxiliary intake cam phase is constrained to the basic value of the target auxiliary intake cam phase.
Abstract:
Proposed is a switchable valvetrain (1) for an internal combustion engine, having a row of rocker arms (2) which extend in the longitudinal direction of a cylinder head, which rocker arms (2) run via a recess (7) on an upper side (6) on a head (8) of a bearing journal (9), which bearing journal (9) is axially moveably arranged in a bore (10) of a carrier (11) which runs above, with piston-like coupling means (12) being provided for selectively coupling the bearing journal (9) to the carrier (11).
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a device (1) for shutting down at least one cylinder of an internal combustion engine. The device (1) is connected to a rocker lever (2) which actuates an intake/exhaust valve (6) of the respective cylinder. In active cylinder operation, the rocker lever (2) executes an oscillating tilting movement about a pivot axle (10) which is situated in the area of the connection to the cylinder head (9), whereas when the respective cylinder is deactivated, the rocker lever (2) is lifted by the cylinder head (9) and therefore its pivot axle (10) is shifted in the direction of the connection of the rocker lever (2) to the valve of the respective cylinder. It is essential to the invention here that the device (1) is arranged essentially between the rocker lever (2) and the cylinder head (9) and the device has a guide element (11), a pivot axle element (12) displaceably mounted on the guide element (11) and a spring (15) stretched between two abutments (13, 14).

Abstract:
A tubular mount system for a rocker arm which includes a rigid clamp at the base of the engine head is disclosed. Included is a pedestal mount/adjuster with external threads engageable with internal threads of a trunnion assembly cooperatively associated with a rocker arm whereby the rocker arm can be raised or lowered by turning the pedestal mount/adjuster, rotatably received by a rocker stud. This eliminates the need for an adjuster stud and nut on the rocker arm and a pillow block to hold the device together.
Abstract:
A rocker arm assembly for mounting about a stud means. The rocker arm assembly generally comprises a rocker arm and a support member. The rocker arm has opposed first and second lateral ends and a central bore between the ends. The support member is positioned within the rocker arm central bore and mounted on the stud means. The rocker arm is configured to pivot about the support member. The support member has opposed lateral sides with a seal member extending along each lateral side. The seal members provide a seal between each lateral side of the support member and an internal surface of the central bore thereby providing more efficient oil lubrication to the ends of the rocker arm.
Abstract:
A valve operating mechanism is described for an internal combustion engine in which at least one valve (14) of an engine cylinder is operated by two cams (10,12). The cams (10,12) have respective cam followers (38,36) which are resiliently biased to remain in contact with the cams (10,12) at all times and which act on the valve (14) by way of a summation linkage (20,24) in such a manner that the displacement of the valve (14) at any instant is determined by a combination of the displacements of the two cam followers (38,36). In the invention, movement of each of the two cam followers (38,36) is transmitted to the summation linkage (20,24) by way of a respective one of two pushrods (28,30).
