Abstract: A fuel injector includes an auxiliary valve member that can assist in raising a mean injection pressure, increase a nozzle valve opening pressure, and hasten the closure rate of a nozzle valve member over an equivalent fuel injector without the auxiliary valve. The auxiliary valve member is fluidly positioned between a needle control chamber and a high pressure space, which includes a fuel pressurization chamber within the fuel injector. The auxiliary valve member includes a closing hydraulic surface exposed to fluid pressure in the high pressure space. The plumbing and the auxiliary valve member allow high pressure fuel to act upon a closing hydraulic surface of the nozzle valve member to increase valve opening pressure and mean injection pressure. The needle control chamber may be vented or may be a closed volume when the auxiliary valve member is in its closed position. The invention is potentially applicable to any fuel injector, but finds the preferred application in cam actuated fuel injectors that include an electronically controlled spill valve.

In one example, a valve includes a first chamber in fluid communication with a first fuel line, a second chamber in fluid communication with a second fuel line and in fluid communication with a fuel storage tank, a piston separating the first chamber from the second chamber, and a needle coupled to the piston and controlling a flow passage between the second fuel line and the second chamber, where the piston and needle are sized such that a force applied on the piston by the first chamber parallel to an axis of movement of the piston maintains the needle in a closed position when the first fuel line flows fuel at a first pressure and the second fuel line flows fuel at a second pressure, the second pressure greater than the first pressure.

Abstract: A passive hydraulically actuated non-electric shutdown pressure relief valve relieves pressure in the high pressure volume of a low static leak common rail fuel system after shutdown. When the common rail fuel system is in operation, a transfer pump provides medium pressure to hold the shutdown pressure relief valve closed. At shutdown, the residual medium pressure downstream from the transfer pump decays back to tank, and the residual high pressure trapped in the common rail and fuel injectors pushes open the shutdown pressure relief valve to release the high pressure after back to tank.

Abstract: The inventive discharge rate and pressure control solenoid valve (1) is used for a circuit consisting of a low pressure part and a high-pressure part and controls the discharge rate of a low-pressure fluid with the aid of a sliding spool (18) in a liner (22) provided with at least one fluid feeding orifice (20) and one fluid exhausting orifice (21) respectively. Abstract: An arrangement in a fuel injection system for controlling the fuel injection includes a body part having a space, through which the fuel to be injected during operation flows, and a fuel inlet opening and an outlet opening opening into the space.
