Abstract: Power consumption in a start-up circuit for a LED-based light bulb may be reduced by digitally switching a transistor of the start-up circuit coupled to the input voltage. When the transistor is digitally switched between on and off, a reduced amount of power is dissipated by the transistor, because it may not enter a saturation region of operation where the resistance of the transistor between drain and source terminals increases. The transistor may be coupled to a voltage regulator for generating one or more output voltages, including a supply voltage for a host controller IC. The transistor may be switched on and off by a digital signal generated by logic circuitry, which may decide to switch the transistor on and off based on a voltage level at an output of the voltage regulator.

Abstract: The present invention discloses a switching regulator capable of reducing current ripple and a control circuit thereof. The switching regulator includes a buck power stage circuit and a control circuit. The control circuit includes an operation signal generation circuit and a current source circuit for reducing current ripple. The current source circuit is coupled to the operation signal generation circuit and the buck power stage circuit, for operating a ripple reduction switch therein according to an operation signal, to convert the output voltage to a load voltage between a load node and a reference node, and to reduce a current ripple of the output current, so as to generate a load current which is supplied to a load circuit, wherein the load circuit is coupled between the load node and the reference node, and the current source circuit is coupled between the output node and the load node.

Abstract: Systems and techniques are provided for a power receiver circuit. A power generating mechanism may include power generating elements that may generate alternating current signals. Rectifier circuit may include rectifiers that may generate a direct current signal from an alternating current signal, and diodes. Group circuits that may connect groups of rectifier circuits in electrical circuits to combine the direct current signals from the rectifier circuits in a group into a single direct current signal. A step down converter may be connected to the group circuits. The step down converter may convert a direct current signal to a direct current signal of a target voltage level. An output switch may be connected to the step down converter. A linear regulator may be connected to the step down converter. A microcontroller may be connected to the linear regulator and the output switch and may control the output switch.

Abstract: A vehicle powertrain includes an IGBT and a gate driver. The IGBT is configured to energize an electric machine. The gate driver is configured to apply an off voltage less than a threshold voltage onto a gate of the IGBT while the IGBT is operating in a saturation mode, and in response to expiration of a delay from a transition from saturation to linear mode, apply a voltage pulse above the off voltage to reduce flyback from the electric machine. The gate driver may be configured to, in response to expiration of a delay from a transition from saturation to linear mode, apply a voltage pulse above the off voltage and below the threshold to reduce flyback from the electric machine.

Abstract: Operational mode changes in a system-on-a-chip (SoC) integrated circuit in a complex device such as a mobile phone cause spikes in current demand which can cause voltage droops that disrupt operation of the SoC. A hybrid parallel power supply connects a switching-mode power supply and a low-dropout voltage regulator in parallel to provide high efficiency and fast response times. Integration of the voltage regulator on the SoC reduces parasitic impedance be between the voltage regulator and the load to aid in reducing voltage droops. The switching-mode power supply and the low-dropout voltage regulator can regulate their outputs to slightly difference voltage levels. This can allow the switching-mode power supply to supply most of the SoC's current demands.

Abstract: An electrical circuit for providing electrical power for use in powering electronic devices, such as monitors, televisions, white goods, data centers, and telecom circuit boards, is described herein. The electrical circuit includes an input terminal configured to receive an input power signal, an output terminal configured to provide an output power signal, and a forward converter coupled to the input and output terminals. The forward converter includes a transformer, and a primary side regulation circuit coupled to a primary side of the transformer. The primary side regulation circuit includes a switching device coupled to the primary side, a current sense circuit configured to sense a current level on the primary side, and a controller configured to generate a pulse-width modulated control signal delivered to the switching device as a function of the sensed current level to regulate the transformer to deliver the output power signal at a desired voltage level.
