摘要: A method of producing a phenolic resin foam is provided. The method includes foaming and curing, on a surface material, a foamable phenolic resin composition containing a phenolic resin, a surfactant, a curing catalyst, and at least one selected from the group consisting of a chlorinated hydrofluoroolefin, a non-chlorinated hydrofluoroolefin, and a halogenated hydrocarbon. The phenolic resin has a weight average molecular weight Mw of at least 400 and no greater than 3,000 as determined by gel permeation chromatography. The phenolic resin has a viscosity at 40° C. of at least 1,000 mPa·s and no greater than 100,000 mPa·s. The phenolic resin has a viscosity increase rate constant of at least 0.05 (1/min) and no greater than 0.5 (1/min).

摘要: Process for the preparation of a novolac alkylphenol resin using a defined mixture of mono- and dialkylphenols, an aldehyde, and an acid catalyst. The mixture of mono- and dialkylphenols comprises 20 to 70 mol % mono-alkylphenols having an alkyl group of 1 to 18 carbon atoms, and 30 to 80 mol % of dialkylphenols having alkyl groups of 1 to 18 carbon atoms. The molar ratio of aldehyde in comparison to the mono- and dialkylphenol mixture is greater than or equal to 1. Novolac alkylphenol resins prepared according to this invention contain, of each individual starting material phenolic monomer component, less than 0.5 mass %, and in the best case, less than 0.1 mass % in comparison to the total obtained alkylphenol resin.

摘要: A process for the production of high compressive strength microspheres of cured phenolic resins are disclosed. Specifically, the microspheres formed by this process exhibit excellent viscoelastic properties in that the microspheres retain their shape even after applying a load of at least 4 GPa at 2.5 percent strain, and exhibit high hardness of at least about 0.3 GPa.
