摘要: A system for measuring the relative distance between pipeline pigs moving in a pipeline is provided. The system includes a means for measuring the relative distance between the pipeline pigs as the pigs move through the pipeline to enable a determination of the change of the relative distance between the pigs as they move through the pipeline. In an embodiment, the relative distance between the pigs is measured and recorded using one or more transceivers carried by one or more pigs. Other embodiments for measuring and recording the relative distance between pigs moving in a pipeline are also disclosed.

摘要: Apparatus and methods for calibrating dynamic parameters of a vehicle navigation system are presented. One method may include determining whether reference position data of a vehicle is available, and measuring composite accelerations of the vehicle. The method may further include generating distance and turn angle data based upon a wheel speed sensors data, computing distance and turn angle errors based upon the independent position data, and associating the distance and turn angle errors with composite accelerations. A second method presented includes calibrating an inertial navigation sensor within a vehicle navigation system. The second method may include determining reference position data and Inertial Navigation System (INS) data, aligning an IMU with the vehicle, and aligning the IMU with an Earth fixed coordinate system. The second method may further include computing the vehicle alignment with respect to a horizontal plane, and determining calibration parameters for distance sensors associated with the vehicle.

摘要: A method and system for compensating for wheel wear uses position and/or speed information from an independent positioning system to measure some distance over which the train has traveled. Wheel rotation information and/or distance and speed from a wheel sensor over the distance is also collected. The wheel rotation information and distance and/or speed information are then used to determine the size of the train wheels and/or a correction factor that can be used to correct the information from the wheel sensor for wheel wear. The method is performed periodically to correct for changes in wheel size over time due to wear so that the wheel rotation information can be used to determine train position and speed in the event of a positioning system failure.

摘要: A vehicle service indicator releasable secured within a vehicle. The vehicle service indicator includes a microprocessor able to monitor a distance traveled by the vehicle. A service task indicator is controlled by the microprocessor and includes a display indicating a desired function to be monitored. A step down odometer is connected to the microprocessor. The step down odometer includes a display for displaying a numeric value indicative of a distance to be traveled by the vehicle before the function displayed by the programmed service indicator is to be performed. An indicator is provided for producing an alarm signal. The microprocessor decreases the value displayed by the step down odometer relative to the monitored distance traveled by the vehicle. When the value displayed by the step down odometer reaching a value of “0” the microprocessor activates the indicator to produce an alarm signal alerting a user of the vehicle that the function displayed by the programmed service indicator should be performed. The indicator may include a plurality of programmed service task indicators, a plurality of step down odometers and a plurality of indicators for monitoring a plurality of functions for the vehicle. The vehicle service indicator may be integrally connected or releasably connected within the vehicle. The microprocessor may be programmed by a user to display the desired function to be monitored as well as to count down a desired distance by the odometer.

摘要: Method and apparatus for modifying an odometer reading in a vehicle navigation system to compensate for odometer errors. A first distance measurement is obtained from the odometer, and a second distance measurement is obtained from at least one other sensor. The difference between the first and second distance measurements is determined and an adjustment amount is generated in response thereto. A modification factor is then adjusted by the adjustment amount, the modification factor being for modifying the odometer reading. The odometer reading is then modified with the modification factor. A method and apparatus for selecting a pulse rate setting in a vehicle navigation system to correspond to a pulse rate associated with the odometer are also described. A first distance measurement is obtained from the odometer and a second distance measurement is obtained from at least one other sensor. The difference between the first and second distance measurements is then determined. The pulse rate setting is changed to correspond to the odometer pulse rate if the difference is greater than a threshold level, and is left unchanged if the difference is less than the threshold level.

摘要: A method for substantially reducing the error that accumulates in dead reckoning systems. The method includes determining heading changes from a dead reckoning system (10), testing for improbable heading changes (20), and setting to zero any invalid heading change (40). Testing for improbable heading changes (20) in differential odometry systems includes checking the sign of both prior (60) and next pulse count differences (70) and setting an invalid heading change flag (80) if either or both differ in sign. In systems using a heading rate sensor, testing for improbable heading changes (20) includes checking whether a heading change is below a minimum turn rate (90) and, if so, setting an invalid heading change flag (100).
