    Abstract: A diagnostic field device for detecting a condition of a process conduit includes an infrared detector comprising a plurality of pixels configured to receive infrared radiation from the process conduit and responsively provide a plurality of pixel outputs. A first pixel of the plurality of pixels is configured to receive infrared radiation from a first location on the process conduit. A second pixel of the plurality of pixels is configured to receive infrared radiation from a second location on the process conduit. A memory contains thermal profile information which relates an output from the first pixel to a first temperature at the first location and relates an output from the second pixel to a second temperature at the second location. A microprocessor identifies a process anomaly based upon outputs from the first and second pixels. Output circuitry provides a diagnostic output indicative of the identified process anomaly.

    Abstract: A remote seal assembly for a process transmitter includes a seal body containing a cavity sealed by a diaphragm. The seal body configured to be mounted to a process element containing a process fluid such that a first side of the diaphragm is exposed to the process fluid. A capillary contains a fill fluid that is in fluid communication with the cavity and a second side of the diaphragm. A coupling has a capillary recess and two cavities separated by a second diaphragm. The capillary extends through the capillary recess and connects to the coupling such that the fill fluid in the capillary is in fluid communication with one of the two cavities and the second diaphragm. A thermally conductive element preferably extends continuously along the capillary from the seal body toward the coupling and into the capillary recess without contacting the coupling.

    Abstract: A method for connecting a field device to a wireless process communication network is provided. The method comprises bringing the wireless field device within a proximity of a wireless gateway. The method also comprises establishing a connection between an NFC transceiver associated with the wireless gateway and an NFC tag associated with the wireless field device. The method also comprises generating a near field communication between the wireless gateway and the field device to exchange wireless field device access information. The method also comprises using the wireless field device access information to allow the wireless field device to communicate over the wireless process communication network. A method is also provided for configuring a wireless process communication adapter at a wireless gateway using NFC communication and then subsequently coupling the configured wireless process communication adapter to a field device.

    Abstract: A pressure sensor includes a base having a high-pressure contact portion, and a diaphragm positioned over the base and having an external top surface opposite the base. The external top surface is defined within a closed perimeter and external side surfaces extend down from an entirety of the closed perimeter toward the base. A high-pressure contact portion of the diaphragm is aligned with and separated by a gap from the high-pressure contact portion of the base. A sensing element is coupled to the diaphragm and provides an output based on changes to the diaphragm. When a hydrostatic pressure load above a threshold value is applied to the entire external top surface and external side surfaces of the diaphragm, the hydrostatic pressure load causes the high-pressure contact portion of the diaphragm to contact the high-pressure contact portion of the base.
