Abstract: A user terminal is provided with two off-loading stations, and at least two separate pressure vessel means are employed to supply natural gas to the user terminal. At least one of the separate pressure vessels is movable to a supply terminal. The off-loading stations are preferably provided with an automatic switchover arrangement to change from one pressure vessel means to another, and the resulting method and system for distributing natural gas assures a continuous supply of natural gas at varying demand rates to the user terminal.

Abstract: Method and apparatus are disclosed for the recovery and removal of natural gas from a mine by liquefying and collecting the gas within the mine, and then transporting the liquified gas to the surface in a mobile tank. Natural gas is withdrawn from bore holes in a coal mine and liquefied using liquid nitrogen. A unique apparatus permits both the liquid nitrogen and the liquefied natural gas to be contained within a same insulated tank, enhancing the portable characteristics. Liquid nitrogen and its vapor are used to cool the natural gas so as to separate water and CO.sub.2. Means are disclosed for controlling the cooling by the cryogenic liquid by regulating the venting flow rate of its vapor in response to the pressure of the liquefied natural gas. The disclosed system eliminates the need for extensive piping and on-site pumping associated with conventional degasification processes.

Abstract: The kit of the present invention is for use in the refilling within a survival unit of a gaseous supply tank through a filler valve having a threaded stem adjacent the free end thereof and a gripping surface on the filler valve. The gas is generally oxygen although other gas may be supplied. The kit includes an adapter to provide coupling relationship with the threaded stem of the filler valve so as to permit a flow of oxygen into the supply tank such that refilling thereof may take place without removal of the supply tank from the survival kit. The adapter includes an elongated member with an aperture extending therethrough and is adapted to mate with the filler valve in sealing engagement therewith so as to permit gas flowing through the aperture to enter the filler valve. The adapter further includes a holder with a bore extending axially therethrough and the elongated member extends axially through the aperture. A gripping section is provided on the adapter so as to obtain a coupling to the threaded stem such that rotation of the holder by means of the gripping section obtains abutting sealing engagement between the member and the filler valve. A wrench adapted to be used in conjunction with the adapter is provided as part of the kit. The wrench includes a socket for enclosing the gripping surface to provide retention of the filler valve in fixed position as the member is releasably coupled to the filler valve.

Abstract: The automatic fill-stop valve passes the liquid filling a tank. A level-sensing tube passes vapor until the tank liquid level rises that high, and, thereupon, passes liquid. Serial orifices in the sensing passage produce a valve closing signal when the liquid level reaches the sensing tube to automatically stop the filling of the tank.

Abstract: A maximum liquid level control valve for limiting the flow of liquid petroleum gas into a tank having a valve body, a float pivotally attached to the valve body, a closure flap, a spring acting between the valve body and the closure flap, and a cam device movable by the float. The control valve which is mounted to a flange welded to the side wall of the tank has a valve seat and a passage for liquid to flow through the valve body into the tank. The closure flap is movable toward the valve seat to a closed position and away from the valve seat to an open position. The closure flap is movable to the closed position under incoming liquid pressure. When the liquid level in the tank is below the maximum liquid level, the cam device acts on a stem which is attached to the closure flap. With the cam acting on the stem, the closure flap cannot be moved to the closed position in response to incoming liquid pressure. When the maximum liquid level is reached, the cam device rotates unblocking the stem, the spring constant of the spring is overcome by incoming liquid pressure, and the closure flap is moved to the closed position. When the tank is filled, the source of liquid petroleum gas is shut off and any pressure trapped within the control valve and working against the closure flap is released through a bleeder hole. Then the spring returns the closure flap from the closed position to the open position.

Abstract: The improved double-walled transport container for transporting liquids and gases which have to be protected against heating or cooling and against mechanical shock, has a fully insulated inner vessel and an outer vessel comprising an upper shell, a lower shell and two dished endwalls. A shock-absorbing and thermally insulating layer is provided between the outer and the inner vessel, and support flanges extend over the entire length of the outer vessel. The sum of the distances between the endwalls of the inner and the outer vessel is at least equal to the distance of the crest of the arch from the edge of an endwall of the outer vessel.

Abstract: A plurality of straight tubes in side by side relationship are surrounded by a single long tube of substantially lesser diameter helically wound about the straight tubes to define a reservoir for pressurized natural gas. The helically wound single long tube serves both as a protective covering and strengthening structure for the straight tubes. The straight tubes and helically wound tube may be interconnected by suitable manifolding and a fill opening provided for storing pressurized fluid. The tubular configuration is that of a fairly flat parallele-piped corresponding in size to a conventional standard automobile gasoline tank and thus well suited to replace the conventional gasoline tank to drive vehicles by natural gas.

Abstract: A tanker vessel intended especially for the transport of liquid cargoes at temperatures differing from ambient temperature having external insulation covering the midbody of the vessel. The insulation is secured to the vessel midbody by means of a grid of intersecting frames or firring members attached to the vessel hull with the insulating material being fitted, foamed or sprayed in the lattice spaces defined by the intersecting members.
