Abstract:
A hollow turbine airfoil includes pressure and suction sidewalls extending in span between a root and tip and extending in chord between opposite leading and trailing edges. The pressure sidewall includes a first pattern of first holes distributed in span and chord over a majority thereof, and a second pattern of different second holes also distributed in span and chord over a minority of the pressure sidewall between the tip and the midspan of the airfoil.
Abstract:
A display system for,a handheld computing device is disclosed. The display system includes a processing unit having a first communication port, and a visual display unit separable from the processing unit. The visual display unit further includes a visual display, and a second communication port. The display unit can be expanded from an initial or storage state to present a larger visual display size. Further, the first communication port providing communication with the second communication port.
Abstract:
A motor drive for conditioning power to be delivered to a non-motor load includes a voltage feedback circuit that monitors a DC bus voltage and, based on changes in the DC bus voltage, adjusts a power conditioning scheme such that near steady-state load conditions are maintained in response to a transient load condition. The voltage feedback circuit has a voltage sensor that provides voltage feedback to a controller that determines what changes in power conditioning are needed in response to a transient load condition that manifests itself in a change in DC bus voltage.
Abstract:
A desk-top paper punch includes a drawer for removable insertion into the base of the paper punch, the drawer serving as a collection receptacle for paper punches to be discarded. Once the drawer is near its capacity, the drawer is pulled out of the base for emptying. Means for viewing the contents of the drawer is provided. In one implementation, the view means is a transparent window which allows the viewer to know when the drawer in nearing its capacity for paper chips. In a second embodiment, the viewing means is at least one viewing aperture that perforates the top surface of the base of the paper punch that allows the user to view the drawer's contents.
Abstract:
According to an embodiment of the present invention, a method for transferring a large amount of stored data includes storing the large amount of data on a plurality of RAID's in a storage area network in a first location, each of the RAID's having one or more disk packs, receiving a request for a portion of the stored data from a second location downloading the requested stored data at the first location to at least one disk pack, and sending the disk pack to the data requester at the second location, whereby the data requester can start using the data substantially immediately upon receipt.
Abstract:
A sequence mapping circuit and method for digital audio circuits generates a pulsed output. Over time, the mapping circuit generates pulses with a substantially identical average centroid for each of the possible output waveforms. For at least some of the output waveforms, two or more sets of pulses are provided representing the same waveform but having different centroids. The output is alternated among the available sets of pulses to maintain the desired average centroid over time. Shuffling of the output among the available pulses representing a given waveform may be randomly determined, or the pulses used may be tracked and the output pulses sequentially alternated among the available output pulses. The shuffled mapping method reduces output harmonics compared to conventional static mappers.
Abstract:
A system, apparatus, and method to recover a logical volume on a physical volume, or data storage cartridge, within a dual copy data storage system, such as a virtual tape server (VTS) system. Such recovery follows a disaster situation involving a primary copy of the requested logical volume. The system, apparatus, and method include modules and steps as required to recover a logical volume, or data file or block, through manipulation and swapping of record files, or stubs, that point to primary and secondary copies of a logical volume. Such primary and secondary logical volumes are stored on distinct physical volumes in order to provide quality storage media management and reduce the likelihood of loss of data. The recovery and swapping procedures are implemented in a manner that is substantially transparent to a host or client requires no additional input from the host or client
Abstract:
The present invention relates to an auxiliary composition, for use in the laundering or treatment of fabrics, comprising a co-particulate admix, the co-particulate admix comprises: (i) clay; and (ii) a hydrophobic component; and (iii) a charged polymeric fabric-softening boosting component; wherein the auxiliary composition further comprises a flocculating aid and optionally one or more adjunct components.
Abstract:
According to one aspect of the invention, a method for forming contact formations is provided. A substrate may be placed in an electrolytic solution. The substrate may have an exposed conductive portion and the electrolytic solution may include a plurality of metallic ions and an accelerator. The accelerator may include at least one of bis-(sodium sulfopropyl)-disulfide and 3-mercapto-1-propanesulfonic acid-sodium salt. A voltage may be applied across the electrolytic solution and the conductive portion of the substrate to cause the metallic ions to be changed into metallic particles and deposited on the conductive portion. The electrolytic solution may also include a protonated organic additive. The electrolytic solution may also include an acid and a surfactant. The acid may include at least one of sulfuric acid, methane sulfonic acid, benzene sulfonic acid, and picryl sulfonic acid. The surfactant may include at least one of polyethylene glycol and polypropylene glycol.
