Abstract:
A sputtering target producing few particles, a backing plate or a sputtering apparatus, and a sputtering method producing few particles. An arc-spraying coating film and a plasma-spraying coating film over the former are formed on the sputtering target, a backing plate, or another surface in the sputtering apparatus, where an unwanted film might be formed. Thus a deposit is prevent from separating/flying from the target, backing plate, or another surface where an unwanted film might be formed in the sputtering apparatus.
Abstract:
A stair-climbing wheelchair has a pair of track assemblies that can be placed in an operative drive mode to propel the wheelchair along ascending and descending paths of travel relative to an obstacle such as a stairway, curb, or the like. Each track assembly includes a guide member with rollers at opposite ends thereof carrying an endless cleated belt. The guide member is arched between its end sections thereby permitting the endless belt to deflect upwardly between the rollers when the endless belt engages an obstacle such as a step, curb or the like. This permits a smooth gradual transition of the wheelchair onto and/or off the top step of a staircase. Preferably, each track assembly also includes an inclined tail section having a separate endless cleated belt. The track assemblies can also be utilized in connection with remote control and/or unmanned motorized vehicles.
Abstract:
A sliding contact guide for a chain, or other flexible transmission medium comprises a synthetic resin guide body having a shoe on which the transmission medium slides, and a slotted, plate-receiving portion on the back side of the shoe for receiving a reinforcing plate. The plate-receiving portion is composed of a pair of opposed, longitudinally extending, slot-defining walls. Raised ribs, for sandwiching the reinforcing plate, are disposed on opposed inner surfaces of the walls, and are oriented in the direction of insertion of the reinforcing plate into the slot. The guide suppresses shock noises due to wobbling of the guide during operation, and molding and assembly of the guide are enhanced.
Abstract:
An orally administrable drug powder composition which forms a gastro-retentive RAFT having at least two trigger pulses is provided. The composition contains, at a minimum, (a) at least one GHB drug in a first pulse release which releases in less than about 3 hours; (b) at least one GHB drug in a delayed trigger release form; (c) at least one non-toxic gas generating agent; and (d) a RAFT system, wherein following oral ingestion, the composition provides a self-assembling gastro-retentive RAFT having entrapped therein, the at least one drug of (a) and (b) and the gas generated in situ by the non-toxic gas generating agent, thereby providing a floating gastro-retentive RAFT having a dual pulse system wherein at least the second pulse is a trigger pulse and which retains the at least one GHB drug in the stomach for at least about 3 hours.
Abstract:
A method of obtaining a population of cells enriched in human polymorphonuclear myeloid derived suppressor cells (PMN-MDSCs) comprises isolating from a cell suspension those cells which express LOX-1 to provide a population of cells enriched with PMN-MDSCs. A method of monitoring the population of LOX-1+ cells in a cell-containing biological sample is useful for determining the efficacy of treatment or the metastasis or increasing progression of cancer. Other cell isolation and diagnostic methods are also described.
Abstract:
Viral vectors comprising engineered hOTC DNA and RNA sequences are provided which when delivered to a subject in need thereof are useful for treating hyperammonemia, ornithine transcarbamylase transcarbamylasc deficiency and symptoms associated therewith. Also provided are methods of using hOTC for treatment of liver fibrosis and/or cirrhosis in OTCD patients by administering hOTC.
Abstract:
Methods and compositions are provided for heat treating, e.g. quenching a metal. The quenching composition includes a composition that comprises a polyamidopolyamine compound having a molecular weight of about 500 to about 100,000 and comprising a pendent amino group; and/or a non-polymeric amidoamine having a molecular weight of about 290 to about 5000 and comprising an amino group; and a hydroxyl containing diluent. These compositions impart one or more of the functions of quenching, lubricity, anti/low foaming and/or bioresistance to the quenching fluid.
Abstract:
A repeatable method for detecting circulating tumor cells in vitro is provided. The method involves combining a test sample from a patient suspected of having circulating tumor cells, and a non-lytic adenoviral system, and culture media for the cells. The adenoviral system utilizes (i) a first replication-defective adenoviral particle in which an expression cassette is packaged, said expression cassette comprising an adenoviral 5′ and 3′ ITRs and a tumor-specific promoter; and (ii) a coding sequence for a reporter protein which is expressed in the presence of circulating tumor cells, and an adenoviral 3′ ITR. The test sample and the non-lytic adenoviral system are incubated for a sufficient time to permit expression of the reporter protein, and measuring reporter protein expression in the test samples, whereby presence of reporter expression indicates the presence of circulating tumor cells in the sample. Because the system is non-lytic, the testing can be repeated on the cells which remain viable in culture. Also provided is a method for enriching test samples having circulating tumor cells and a microfluidics device suitable for CTC-specification identification and enumeration.
Abstract:
A 12-hour anti-tussive modified release solid tablet or capsule is described which comprises a benzonatate adsorbate in a matrix with a sufficient amount of one or more pharmaceutically acceptable modified release pH-independent, substances to provide a 12-hour modified release profile to the benzonatate, wherein there is substantially no benzonatate release from the tablet or capsule in the buccal cavity and no more than about 25% release of the benzonatate within 1 hour as determined in an in vitro dissolution assay.
Abstract:
A spectral color and light therapy system is described which is useful in treating mood, anxiety, attention, substance, and/or behavioral disorders. The system utilizes one or more light source which emits visible colored light at a brilliance factor of at least about 2500 and at least one of four colors which are different from each other, said system providing (a) (i) a light source emitting blue light in the range of about 450 to about 475 nm; and (ii) a source emitting green visible light in the range of about 495 nm to about 570 nm; and (b) a light source emitting rose pink light in the range of about 635 nm to about 650 nm; and a light source of peach light in the range of about 590 nm to about 630 nm. Also provided are methods of treating mood, anxiety, attention, substance, and/or behavioral disorders. Methods of treating and/or ameliorating the symptoms of autism spectrum disorders are described.
