At least a surface of the inner part is provided with effective protection against microbes and/or fungi. Because the inner part inhibits the growth of microbes and/or fungi, it is easier to clean and maintain.

A UV radiator has an essentially tubular discharge vessel designed to produce dielectric barrier discharges at one end and sealed in a gas-tight manner at both ends, and in each case at least one elongate inner and outer electrode which is oriented parallel to the longitudinal axis of the discharge vessel. If it is imagined that the tubular part of the discharge vessel is split into two equal halves by an imaginary longitudinal section, the at least one inner electrode is arranged on the inside of the first imaginary tube half, and the at least one outer electrode is arranged on the outside of the second imaginary tube half, and essentially diametrically with respect to one another. As a result, and as a result of the shape and number and arrangement of the outer electrode(s), directional radiation characteristics are achieved.

Methods and apparatus for focusing proton and ion beams within the profile of the beam envelope of an ultra-low emittance, charge neutralized emission to create a pattern without focusing the entire beam envelope or rastering. In one implementation, a method for use with laser accelerated ion beams comprises the steps: irradiating a surface of a target with pulsed laser irradiation to produce an electron plasma emission on a non-irradiated surface of the target, the electron plasma emission producing an ion beam emission on the non-irradiated surface, the ion beam emission having a beam envelope; and focusing ions of the ion beam emission into a plurality of component beams within the beam envelope as a result of the shape of the non-irradiated surface of the target.

The invention relates to a bit holder having an insertion projection and having a bore-shaped bit receptacle that has a longitudinal center axis, a convexly curved support surface being provided on a base part. A bit holder of this kind can be implemented in compact and stable fashion in particular by the fact that the longitudinal center axis of the bit receptacle intersects the support surface.

The invention relates to a bit holder for an earth working machine, in particular a road milling machine, that comprises a bit receptacle in the region of a working side of a support member and that indirectly or directly carries an insertion projection on an insertion projection side of the support member, the support member comprising two stripping surfaces [first or second stripping surfaces] that form a stripping surface pair and are at an angle to one another. In order to achieve a stable and long-lived configuration with such a bit holder, provision is made according to the present invention that the support member comprises at least one further stripping surface that is at an angle to the two stripping surfaces of the stripping surface pair.

To operate an internal combustion engine subvolumes of the fluid flowing into an intake duct in each instance during a predetermined time period are determined for each period. Tank purging values of a characteristic quantity are determined for each period. The characteristic quantity is representative of a tank purging fuel mass, which flowed through the tank purging valve in each instance during the predetermined time period. The successive subvolumes are added together, starting from the currently determined subvolume, to give a total subvolume, until the total subvolume is greater than or equal to an effective intake duct volume downstream of the tank purging valve.

Apparatus and associated methods relate to fall-protection safety connector having alignment indicators located on both a static end and a dynamic end of a deformable energy-absorbing device that when deformed visually presents the alignment indicators as misaligned. In an illustrative embodiment, the fall-protection safety connector may be configured to securely connect to a securement member. In some embodiments, a user may connect to the fall-protection safety connector by attaching a lanyard to an aperture coupled to the dynamic end of the deformable energy-absorbing device. Before using the fall-protection safety connector, the user may visually inspect the alignment of the alignment indicators to ascertain the readiness of the connector. Misaligned alignment indicators may advantageously indicate to the user that the remaining energy-absorbing deformation capability of the connector may be below a predetermined specification.
