Abstract: The present invention discloses a process for forming a biaxially oriented film. The process includes first selecting a polyolefin resin wherein said polyolefin resin comprises a linear low density polyethylene resin characterized by having from 9 to 35 weight percent of the total weight of linear low density polyethylene resin eluting from a CEF at a temperature greater than 97.0° C.; and further characterized by having a CDR of from 33 to 80 and a Mw Ratio of from 0.15 to 0.45. Next a film is formed from the polyolefin resin selected in the first step. Finally the film formed in the second step is oriented in a sequential manner. The films produced by this process are characterized by having an ultimate elongation at least 1.5 times greater in the MD as compared to the CD and the 2% secant modulus is a least 1.25 times greater in the CD as compared to the MD. The films are further characterized by having free residual shrinkage of less than 10% in the MD and less than 10% in the CD when exposed to a temperature of 90° C. for 10 minutes.

Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention relate to biaxially oriented, multilayer polyethylene films and to laminates and articles formed therefrom. In one aspect, a biaxially oriented, multilayer polyethylene film comprises Layer A which is a sealant layer p having a top facial surface and a bottom facial surface and comprising a first polyethylene, wherein the first polyethylene has a density of at least 0.900 g/cm3, an IHDF>95 of 20-60 kg/mol, and a MWHDF>95 of greater than 130 kg/mol, wherein Layer A comprises at least 50 weight percent of the first polyethylene based on the weight of Layer A, and Layer B having a top facial surface and a bottom facial surface, wherein Layer B comprises one or more additional polyethylenes, and wherein the top facial surface of Layer B is in adhering contact with a bottom facial surface of Layer A, wherein the density of the first polyethylene is at least 0.002 g/cm3 less than the density of Layer B.

Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention relate to multilayer structures and articles formed therefrom. In one aspect, a multilayer structure comprises (a) a biaxially oriented polyethylene film comprising a linear low density polyethylene having a density of 0.910 to 0.940 g/cm3, wherein the ultimate elongation in the machine direction of the biaxially oriented polyethylene film is at least 2 times greater than the ultimate elongation in the cross direction, and wherein the ultimate tensile strength of the biaxially oriented polyethylene film is at least 60 MPa in at least one of the machine direction and the cross direction; (b) an adhesive layer; and (c) a sealant film, wherein the ultimate elongation of the sealant film is at least 300% in at least one of the machine direction and the cross direction, wherein the ultimate tensile strength of the sealant film is less than 50 MPa in at least one of the machine direction and the cross direction, and wherein the sealant film has a heat seal initiation temperature of 105 ° Cor less; wherein the sealant film is laminated to the biaxially oriented polyethylene film by the adhesive. In some embodiments, the sealant film comprises at least one layer comprising at least 30 percent by weight of a polyolefin plastomer, a polyolefin elastomer, an ultra low density polyethylene, an ethylene acetate copolymer, an ethylene acrylic acid copolymer, or an ethylene acrylate copolymer.

Abstract: The present disclosure is concerned with a method of forming a seal with a polyethylene based film structure. The polyethylene based film structure has at least one layer formed with an oriented polyethylene having a predetermined melting temperature (Tm). A conductive heat sealing device provides heat to form the seal, where a first sealing bar of the conductive heat sealing device operates at a first operating temperature of at least 10 degrees Celsius (° C.) below the Tm of the oriented polyethylene in the polyethylene based film structure and a second sealing bar of the conductive heat sealing device operates at a second operating temperature of at least 15° C. higher than the operating temperature of the first sealing bar. The seal formed with the polyethylene based film structure retains at least 99 percent of its original surface area prior to forming the seal.

The liners can exhibit high dart impact and can provide a balance of stiffness, toughness, and seal strength. The at least one ply of the liner according to embodiments disclosed herein comprises a first layer, a tie layer, and a second layer, wherein the tie layer is disposed between the first layer and the second layer. In further embodiments, the at least one ply of the liner can include a second tie layer and a third layer, wherein the second tie layer is disposed between the first layer and the third layer.
