摘要: Bone matrix compositions and, more specifically, demineralized bone matrix (DBM) having increased osteoinductive capacity and methods for its production are provided. Specifically, DBM derived from cortical bone from the periosteal layer of bone are provided. Compositions comprising a disproportionate amount of DBM prepared from bone derived from the periosteal and/or middle layer of bone are provided. 摘要: Porous materials and methods for forming them are disclosed. One method for immobilizing micro-particles and/or nano-particles onto internal pore surfaces and/or external pore surfaces of porous materials includes suspending the micro-particles and/or nano-particles in a liquid adapted to swell, soften, and/or deform either the porous materials and/or the particles, thereby forming a liquid-particle suspension. The method further includes adding the suspension to the porous materials; and removing the liquid, thereby forming the porous materials having the micro-particles and/or nano-particles immobilized on the internal pore surfaces and/or the external pore surfaces.

摘要: A covering for delivering a therapeutic agent to a surgical site is provided. The covering may include a single or multi-compartment structure configured to at least partially retain the therapeutic agent until the covering is placed at a surgical site. Upon placement, the covering may facilitate transfer of the therapeutic agent to the surgical site. In some embodiments, the covering comprises an antimicrobial agent, a hemostatic agent, an anti-inflammatory agent, and/or a growth factor.

摘要: A method of enhancing the binding of growth factors and cell cultures to a demineralized allograft bone material which includes applying ex vivo an effective quantity of an ionic force change agent to at least a portion of the surface of a demineralized allograft bone material to produce a binding-sensitized demineralized allograft bone material and implanting the binding-sensitized demineralized allograft bone material into a host bone. The ionic force change agent may include at least one of enzymes, pressure, chemicals, heat, sheer force, oxygen plasma, supercritical nitrogen, supercritical carbon, supercritical water or a combination thereof. A molecule, a cell culture, or a combination thereof is administered to the binding-sensitized demineralized allograft bone material.

摘要: A covering for delivering a substance or material to a surgical site is provided. The covering, with substance provided therein, may be referred to as a delivery system. Generally, the covering may be formed of polymers for providing extended shelf life and/or increased moisture and radiation resistance, and may include a single or multi-compartment structure capable of at least partially retaining a substance provided therein until the covering is placed at a surgical site. Upon placement, the covering may facilitate transfer of the substance or surrounding materials. For example, the substance may be released (actively or passively) to the surgical site. The covering may participate in, control, or otherwise adjust the release of the substance. In various embodiments, the covering may be formed of a biocompatible material and is suitable for a variety of procedure specific uses.

摘要: Bone matrix compositions having nanoscale textured surfaces and methods for their production are provided. In some embodiments, bone matrix is prepared for implantation and retains nanoscale textured surfaces. In other embodiments, nanostructures are imparted to bone matrix wherein collagen fibrils on the surface of the bone matrix have been compromised, thus imparting a nanoscale textured surface to the bone matrix. Generally, these methods may be applied to mineralized or demineralized bone including partially or surface demineralized bone.

摘要: Accelerated spirit/beverage aging methods and systems are disclosed. Two accelerated aging methods are provided. The first aging method is to soak selected wood fibers/chips with spirits/beverages in situ in presence of subcritical/critical/supercritical carbon dioxide. The second aging method is to process selected wood fibers/chips in subcritical/critical/supercritical carbon dioxide to obtain activated wood fibers/chips. The activated wood fibers/chips are then soaked with spirits and/or beverages. A system for spirit/beverage aging and/or wood activation is also provided. It is comprised of a carbon dioxide supply device with a pump and a filter; a subcritical/critical/supercritical carbon dioxide performance vessel with a temperature/pressure control element; a mesh cage device for holding wood fibers/chips; and a carbon dioxide separation and recycle device. In some embodiments, wood and activated wood are further impregnated with natural flavors, vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and therapeutics in a subcritical/critical/supercritical CO2 environment. Activated wood and/or impregnated wood is then combined with spirit/beverage and soaked in ambient, vacuum, pressure, or CO2 environment to obtain an aged and flavor enriched spirit/beverage.
