    摘要: An endoscopic instrument includes a tubular member having a proximal end and a distal end, a clevis at the distal end of the tubular member, and an end effector assembly mounted on the clevis. A control member extends through the tubular member and includes a cam-pin coupled to the distal end thereof. The end effectors are controlled with a cam-pin and cam-slot arrangement, with the end effectors including the cam-slot and such cam-slot having a proximal end slot bilaterally widened to permit the cam-pin additional movement therein. When the cam-pin is retracted to move the end effectors into a closed positions and then further retracted into the bilaterally widened area, the end effectors can rotate together in the same direction to facilitate movement through a rigid bend in an endoscope.

Each of the struts has a strut length and a ratio of a number of the struts around the circumference to the strut length is greater than 800 per inch, in particular, over 1000 per inch. A method for manufacturing a helical stent includes the steps of providing a stent body with struts disposed about the circumference thereof in turns and with bridges connecting the struts in adjacent turns. The stent body is expanded and, thereafter, some of the bridges, in particular, sacrificial bridges, are removed.

    摘要: Endoscopic bipolar scissor blades are formed in a laminate assembly of an electrically conductive electrode, an electrically insulating material, and a metal shearing surface which is electrically insulated and physically spaced from the electrode by the insulating material which is disposed therebetween. In one embodiment, the electrode is a metal blade, while the insulating material is a ceramic which is fixed to the metal blade, and the metal shearing surface which also provides the cutting edge is of a metal material which is fixed to the ceramic. In a second embodiment, the insulating material is a molded ceramic blade, with the electrode and the metal shearing surface layer metalized or otherwise fixed to the ceramic blade. In a third embodiment, the electrode is metalized on a thin layer insulating material which is fixed onto a metallic blade. In a fourth embodiment, metallic shearing and electrode layers are laminated to opposite sides of a fiberglass material. In all embodiments, the metal cutting edges and surfaces are insulated from the electrodes, and no short circuit can form between the electrodes even though the cutting edges and shearing surfaces are metal.

    摘要: An implantable radiation therapy device includes a biocompatible radiotranslucent outer capsule containing a radiation shielding element and a radioactive isotope at least partially shielded by the shielding element. When the device is at or below body temperature, radiation is prevented or limited from being transmitted through the outer capsule by the shielding element. When non-ambient energy is applied to the device, the shielding element and radioactive isotope are reconfigured such that an increased level of radiation is transmitted through the outer capsule and emitted by the device.

    摘要: Radioactive therapeutic seeds include a substantially radiotransparent cylindrical capsule provided with a radioactive isotope, a radiopaque marker, and an engagement structure adapted to engage tissue surrounding the seeds at the implant site. The engagement structure is also preferably adapted to releasably engage the inside of a delivery needle prior to implantation. The engagement structure is preferably adapted to prevent axial longitudinal movement and axial rotation of a seed about its longitudinal axis when the seed is implanted. According to a preferred embodiment of the invention, the engagement structure includes three spring elements which are biased away from the seed capsule and which provide positive fixation in the tissue, and also frictionally engage the inside of the needle.

    摘要: An endoscopic needle device includes an outer sheath, an elongate shaft extending through the sheath, a needle rigidly attached to the distal end of the shaft, and a handle assembly having a housing coupled to the proximal end of the sheath and having a syringe port in fluid communication with the sheath and a knob rotatably coupled to the housing. Rotation of the knob relative to the housing causes rotation of the shaft relative to the sheath. The needle and the distal end of the sheath are mated by a threaded connection. As such, rotation of the knob relative to the housing causes precise longitudinal movement and extension of the needle relative to the distal end of the sheath. A set of intermeshing gears are provided between the knob and shaft which function to permit at most one rotation of the knob to cause complete extension and/or retraction of the needle. Furthermore, assemblies are provided with permit the shaft to accommodate movement of the needle relative to the sheath. Moreover, the position of the knob relative to the housing provides an indication of the extension of the needle. As such, the injection needle device of the invention permits controllable and calibrated rotation of the needle to within a few degrees, such that the needle device can be easily, reliably, and precisely operated to advance the needle.

    摘要: Radioactive therapeutic seeds include a seed capsule, a radioactive isotope, and a radiopaque marker. According to one embodiment of the invention, the radiopaque marker is a silver wire coil and the isotope is coated on the surface of the coil. According to a first method of the invention, the therapeutic dosage of the seed is adjusted during manufacture by expanding or contracting the coil before it sized and deposited in the capsule. According to second embodiment, the radiopaque marker is a silver rod and the isotope is coated on a radiotransparent coil which is placed over the rod. According to a third embodiment, the isotope is coated on a plurality of rings which are stacked on a radiopaque rod. According to a second method of the invention, the therapeutic dosage of the seed is adjusted during manufacture by stacking a mixture of radio-inactive rings with radioactive rings on the radiopaque rod before the capsule is sealed.
