A surgical instrument actuation system is provided with a double-acting fluid pressure piston pump and a double-acting fluid actuator. An operating member is connected to the pump piston, and a two-position directional valve communicates between the pump and actuator. A valve actuator means is responsive to the pump pressure or to the position of the pump piston or actuator piston. This switches the valve from the first position to the second position so that the system operates to apply a higher actuator force at a lower stroking speed.

The system includes a double-acting fluid pressure actuator with an extension chamber and a retraction chamber separated by a piston for engaging a component of the instrument. An operating lever is pivotally mounted to the piston. The operating lever is also pivotally connected to a servo valve that has a valve spool. The valve is connected to a source of pressurized fluid and has first and second return ports for venting the fluid. The actuator extension and retraction chambers are connected with the valve for each communicating with the pressurized fluid source and with one of the return ports in response to the position of the valve spool. The system includes a feedback line communicating between the extension chamber and the valve to apply a force to the valve spool in one direction when the extension chamber is pressurized. The system also includes a sensing line communicating between the retraction chamber and the valve to apply a force to the valve spool in the opposite direction when the retraction chamber is pressurized.

The ends of the motor shaft are supported by centering springs which permit axial movement of the shaft and thus the armature relative to the stator poles. Extending between the stator poles is a sleeve member which supports a ring magnet in radially spaced relation from the armature. An ignition control system for the internal combustion engine of a material handling implement is disclosed for selectively actuating each of a plurality of control switches, wherein one of the said switches controls an associated electrical device. An ignition switch having a plurality of selectable positions arranged in a predetermined sequence directs a master control signal to the control switches. The master control signal is directed to the control switch associated with the electrical control device only upon completion of movement of the ignition switch through the predetermined sequence of positions. Once the predetermined sequence has been effected, the master control signal is continuously directed to the control device for providing actuation thereof, until the ignition switch is moved to an off position.

An arrangement for controlling the range of movement of a linearly movable control handle is disclosed which is particularly suited for embodiment in association with a control console through which the control handle extends. The arrangement includes a handle guide adapted to be mounted on and beneath the control console cover for limited rotational movement. This rotational movement allows the guide to be selectively positioned to control the range of linear movement of the control handle. In a first position of the guide, the control handle is retained against linear movement in a neutral position. In a second position of the guide, the control handle is operable through a range of limited linear movement, while in a third position of the guide the control handle is operable through a range of relatively greater linear movement. The handle movement control arrangement also includes a detent mechanism operatively associated with the guide and console cover for releasably maintaining the guide in any selected one of the three positions. Stop tabs are also included to limit the degree of rotational movement of the guide.
