Abstract:
The present invention relates to a novel method of producing graphics employing image-enhancing particles electrostatically. The invention also relates to novel electrostatically printable image-enhancing particles.
Abstract:
A method of radiochemical analysis comprises the steps of providing a solid phase extraction sheet material comprising ion-specific sorptive or reactive particles and a porous matrix as carrier for the particles, and providing a fluid including an ion-containing radiochemical analyte comprising the specific ion, contacting the sheet material with the fluid for a time sufficient for the particles to selectively extract the analyte from the fluid, and analyzing the sheet material in a direct mode for quantitative or qualitative data relating to the radiochemical analyte. Solid phase extraction sheet materials and methods for their preparation are also disclosed.
Abstract:
There is provided a loop fastening material for engaging a suitable male mechanical fastening element for a backing substrate of an oriented sheet material having a first face and a second face and substantially continuously attached to at least the first face a plurality of discrete, multi-filament transversely expanded yarns, such yarn filaments providing open loop structures. The yarns are expanded by transverse orientation of the backing to which it has been previously attached by extrusion bonding, adhesive bonding or the like. The resulting loop fastener provides a low cost, readily manufactured loop having good fastening properties to hook materials.
Abstract:
A nonpolarizing beamsplitter is provided, which includes a multilayered stack of alternating layers of a first material and a second material. The first material layers are uniaxially birefringent, and the second material layers are optionally uniaxially birefringent or isotropic. The layers have index of refraction relationships such that for an incident beam having a useful bandwidth, a p-polarized component and an s-polarized component striking the beamsplitter at any angle of incidence .theta. within a desired range, the beamsplitter exhibits substantially the same average reflectivity for the p-polarized component of the incident beam as for the s-polarized component. The invention also includes a method of making a nonpolarizing beamsplitter.
Abstract:
There is provided a nonwoven electret fiber filter formed with a nonwoven web of electret fibers needle-punched to an open scrim support. The scrim support material has individual discrete open areas with an average cross-sectional area as viewed from the plane of the filter media of at least 0.25 mm.sup.2, preferably 1.0 mm.sup.2, and a pressure drop across the scrim support, without the filter web, of less than 1.5 mm H.sub.2 O measured at 98.4 meters/min gaseous face velocity. The resulting filter has enhanced lifetimes, a low pressure drop and high filtration efficiencies.
Abstract:
An image-forming element comprising a substrate, and an image-forming medium comprising (a) a compound absorbing at a first wavelength in the UV/blue region and (b) a dye absorbing at a second wavelength which is longer than the first wavelength, irradiation at said second wavelength bleaching absorption of said compound at said first wavelength, said element being free of thermally unstable urea and/or carbamate molecules.
Abstract:
A hollow, cylindrical light conduit for transporting light generally longitudinally therethrough and distributing light therealong includes a cylindrical wall member of a transparent material. The wall member has an inner cylindrical smooth surface and an outer cylindrical structured surface having an array of isosceles prisms arranged side by side thereon. The faces of adjacent prisms extend longitudinally along the cylindrical wall member and are aligned at the same desired prism angle relative to one another. The light transporting performance of the light conduit, achieved by total internal reflection, and the light distributing performance of the light conduit, specifically relative to radially aligned, high incident angle longitudinal light rays in planes parallel or near parallel to the prisms, is optimized as a function of the desired prism angle between the faces of adjacent prisms.
Abstract:
Orthodontic archwires are packaged between pairs of flexible sheets that are releasably fixed to each other. The archwires are spaced apart from each other between the sheets and arranged in a nested array wherein a portion of one archwire is received within the U-shaped configuration of another archwire. Lines of weakness extend between adjacent pairs of the archwires for enabling detachment of one archwire from remaining archwires of the assembly when desired.
Abstract:
A flexible carrier tape for storage and delivery of components by an advancement mechanism, comprises a strip portion, a plurality of aligned pockets spaced along the strip portion for carrying the components, wherein each pocket includes a bottom wall, and a non-pressure sensitive adhesive comprising a thermoplastic elastomer block copolymer on the bottom wall of the pocket for retaining a component in the pocket.
Abstract:
A method of preparing preferred abrasive grain includes: preparing a dispersion including alpha alumina oxide monohydrate and zirconia sol therein; converting the dispersion to base grit material; and sintering the base grit to form abrasive grains. The presence of the zirconia sol within the dispersion from which the base grits are formed provides an improved abrasive grain. The improved abrasive grain are useful in abrasive products.
