Abstract:
Organic esters, to be employed to make up lubricating compositions are disclosed, said esters being the products of the reaction between a diol and a triol, on the one hand, and a mixture of saturated monocarboxylic acids, on the other hand. The ratios of the diol to the triol (molarly) and the structure and number of carbon atoms of the saturated monocarboxylic acids are critical. Critical values are given, as well as examples of practical use; the viscosity and viscosity index properties of the novel esters out do those of the conventional esters to a degree.
Abstract:
A device is disclosed, which is intended for reducing the fuel consumption and the environmental pollution. An auxiliary power unit is provided, which is energized when a sensing mechanism signals to a signal-processing and control circuit that the engine is idling, for example, at a traffic light stop, or that a deceleration of the vehicle occurs. The fuel intake is cut off and a timing system provides to exclude the fuel feed to the engine for a certain selectable time. When such conditions are sensed, the auxiliary power unit (hydraulic or electric) provides to have the engine running without fuel use up. As normal traffic conditions are resumed, fuel is readmitted and the usual operation is started once again.

A method for the removal of aromatic hydrocarbon from mixtures containing non-aromatic hydrocarbon by liquid-liquid extraction and extractive distillation is described. Isoenthalpic expansion of the rectification column bottom solvent stream and addition of water to the selective solvent can be used to reduce heat consumption.

A method is disclosed for the preparation of a class of dehydropenicillins by irradiating substituted 4-acylmethylthio-2-azetidinones and subsequently subjecting the as-obtained product to cyclization. Processing conditions and analytical data are reported.

A composition for the purification of blood in which impurities of the mercaptan class are present is disclosed, such composition being occluded in fibrous materials and consisting of a polymer functionalized with an organic mercury compound or with an anhydride of an organic acid. As the functionalizing compounds parachloromercury aniline, parachloromercurybenzoic acid and maleic anhydride are preferred.

For effecting enzymic reaction, a reactor is disclosed, in which the flow of the solution to be treated through the catalytic bed material takes place radially. It is preferred to have the catalytic bed in the form of coils of enzyme-occluding fibers. The coils are variously piled up within the reactor. High outputs, low pressure drops and more than satisfactory conversion rates are obtained.

A method and a few compositions are disclosed, which are adapted to depollute fresh and sea water bodies from crude oil and petroleum product pollution by microbial action. The growth of micro-organisms capable of metabolizing hydrocarbons is exalted by certain combination of nutrients, such as lecithin as a phosphorus source, hydantoins, amides allophanates, polyamines, acyl-ureas and esters of the hydantoic and allantoic acids as the nitrogen sources. Ureido-derivatives of amides are also contemplated as additional nutrients.

Urea in powder, formed in the course of a prilling opration in which molten urea is delivered to a prilling tower adjacent its upper end for the formation of droplets which descend to the bottom of the prilling tower through a countercurrent stream of cooling air delivered to the prilling tower adjacent its lower end and which entrains that urea powder, is recovered by withdrawing the stream of air and urea powder from the upper end of the prilling tower and feeding it to an ejector connected with a collecting tank. Motive power is supplied to the ejector by feeding an aqueous liquid to it and that liquid transports the urea constituting the powder to a collecting tank from which the urea is recovered.

An aromatic carbonate having the formula: ##STR1## wherein R' is alkyl and R is alkyl, alkoxy, aryl, aryloxy or NO.sub.2, is prepared by reacting the related phenol or an acyl ester thereof with an alkyl, cyclic or aryl-alkyl carbonate in the presence of a catalyst such as AlCl.sub.3.
