Abstract: A method for activating a function of a motor vehicle by an activation device on the vehicle having at least one communication unit including at least one radiofrequency antenna and transmission and reception device. The activation coming from a user's portable device. The activation of the function is triggered by detection of the user's presence in a predetermined zone around the vehicle and on the basis of a result of authentication of the portable device by the vehicle. For at least two responses received from the portable device: a) comparing, for each response, a power of a first wave received at a time with a maximum power of the components of the first wave received, b) determining, for each response, a presence or absence of reflected waves, c) determining an averaged reflection rate for the responses, d) determining a minimum value for the time from the responses, e) if the averaged reflection rate is zero or full, then the user's presence in the predetermined area is determined using the minimum value for the time, f) if the averaged reflection rate is partial, then the user's presence in the predetermined area is detected using the minimum value for the time, to which a corrective coefficient is applied.

Abstract: A vehicle theft-prevention apparatus can include a locking mechanism with an engagement component. The locking mechanism can be engaged via a first action to apply a force on the vehicle when in an engaged state. The locking mechanism can disengage, via a second action, to withdraw the force from the vehicle when in the engaged state. The locking mechanism can maintain a current state of the force in response to the first action and the second action when in a disengaged state. One or more computing devices can receive a command to enable or disable the locking mechanism. In response to receiving the command, the computing device can cause the engagement component to transition the locking mechanism from the disengaged state to the engaged state or from an engaged state to a disengaged state.

Abstract: A vehicle theft-prevention apparatus can include at least one computing device couple to a plurality of sensors and a wireless transceiver. The plurality of sensors can be configured to sense measurements proximate to a vehicle. The at least one computing device can be configured to read a plurality of first measurements of a first sensor of the plurality of sensors. Based on the plurality of first measurements from the first sensor, the at least one computing device can determine that a key fob moved outside of a range of the first sensor. In response to the key fob moving outside of the range of the first sensor, the at least one computing device can transition to an armed state. The at least one computing device can read a plurality of second measurements from a subset of the plurality of sensors. Based on the plurality of second measurements, the at least one computing device can determine that a person has entered the vehicle.

Abstract: In an on-board communication system, an on-board device transmits processing start signals and detection signals from a plurality of antennas provided in a vehicle, and a portable device receives the processing start signals and the detection signals and transmits a response signal that includes information corresponding to the received detection signals. Position detection of the portable device is performed based on the response signal. The processing start signals start reception processing of the detection signals by the portable device. The detection signals are successively transmitted from the plurality of antennas, at a different timing for each of the plurality of antennas. Various vehicle processing, such as engine start processing, may be performed based on the detected position of the portable device, such as whether the portable device is inside or outside the vehicle.

Abstract: A system for remotely opening a land vehicle door is provided. The system includes a mobile communication device supported on the vehicle and operative to produce a first signal in the form of a first electromagnetic field defined by a field envelope. A hand-held communication device is operative to detect the first electromagnetic field and produce a second signal in the form of a second electromagnetic field when the hand-held device is located within the field envelope. Control logic is coupled to the mobile device and is operative to determine if the hand-held device is an authorized hand-held device. The control logic is operative to determine if a pedestrian carrying an authorized hand-held device is located within the field envelope and to generate a door-opening command signal when the authorized device is located within the field envelope for a predetermined period of time.
