Abstract: A vehicle includes an on-board satellite navigation device, a telematics control unit, a non-transitory computer readable medium, an electronic display device, and a processor. The on-board satellite navigation device is in communication with a global positioning system unit to acquire real-time information regarding conditions near the vehicle's vicinity. The telematics control unit is in wireless communications to at least one of a cloud services and a vehicle network to upload and receive crowdsourced information regarding conditions near the vehicle's vicinity. The non-transitory computer readable medium stores predetermined information regarding conditions near the vehicle vicinity. The processor is programmed to control the electronic display device to display notification data regarding the vehicle vicinity based on one or more of the real-time information, the crowdsourced information and the predetermined information.

Abstract: A vehicle engine cradle structure includes a front member, a rear assembly and a side member. Abstract: Proactively mitigating risk to a vehicle traversing a vehicle transportation network is described. First and second hazard zones for first and second objects ahead of the vehicle are respectively determined. The first hazard zone includes a first target lateral constraint that extends over a left lane boundary, and the second hazard zone includes a second target lateral constraint that extends over a right lane boundary. The lateral constraints separately allow the vehicle to avoid the objects without a speed constraint. Where the first and second hazard zones overlap in the longitudinal direction, a lateral buffer is allocated between the lateral constraints to generate first and second allocated lateral constraints. Longitudinal constraints are respectively determined based on times of arrival at each hazard zone. Using the constraints, a proactive trajectory is determined that includes a lateral contingency, a longitudinal contingency, or both. The vehicle is controlled according to the trajectory.

Abstract: An apparatus for post-processing of a decision-making model of an autonomous vehicle receives a decision-making model including a plurality of states. The model is processed using multivariate data that comprises values for at least three observations of a vehicle operational scenario. A slice of the model decision space is generated by fixing values of all except two observations, and modifying the values of the two observations to obtain multiple alternative solutions for the model. The alternative solutions and the modified values form the slice. Each alternative solution is associated with a respective first value of a first observation and a respective second value of a second observation. The apparatus also generates a solution to a modified decision-making model that is the model modified by, for at least one state and at least one of the two observations, modifying a probabilistic transition matrix, a probabilistic observation matrix, or both.

Abstract: A reactive pedal algorithm is used to modify an accelerator pedal output (APO)-to-torque conversion to produce more deceleration for the same accelerator pedal position. Modifying the APO-to-torque conversion provides the driver of a vehicle the sensation that the vehicle is resisting approaching closer to a lead vehicle. The APO-to-torque conversion is modified based on a scene determination to classify vehicles as in-lane, neighbor-lane, or on-coming. Lane change assist methods and systems are used to modify the APO-to-torque conversion range based on a lead vehicle, a neighbor vehicle, or both.

Abstract: The present disclosure describes lighting assemblies (e.g., taillight assemblies) for vehicles that diffuse and block light transmission from a centralized light source, which inhibits (if not entirely prevents) the creation and perception of hotspots from one or more points-of-view (e.g., from the sides and/or the rear of the vehicle) while producing a more homogenous overall appearance. In one embodiment of the disclosure, the lighting assembly includes: a light source; a diffuser that is spaced axially from the light source; a lens that is spaced axially from the diffuser; and a shield that is located axially between the diffuser and the lens. The diffuser includes first and second lateral ends and is configured to receive and disperse light from the light source through the lighting assembly. The shield is configured to interfere with light transmission from the light source through the at least one lens and thereby inhibit hotspot perception.

Abstract: A multipurpose protective cap for a transmission prior to and during assembly with a drive shaft has a base portion having a cylindrical cross-section of a first inner diameter. The base portion comprises a side wall defining the cylindrical cross-section and having an outer edge and an inner edge, and a membrane spanning the cylindrical cross-section of the base portion at the outer edge of the side wall. A contamination removal portion is formed in an interior surface of the insertion portion and configured to remove debris as the drive shaft passes through the insertion portion.
