Abstract:
A liquid coating composition based on a polymer containing acetoacetate groups and a polyamine in the form of the corresponding aldimine or ketimine, the polymer containing acetoacetate groups being obtained by reacting a polyepoxide containing hydroxyl groups, or a polyepoxide which is partially or completely reacted with monocarboxylic acids, with acetoacetic acid derivatives. These liquid coating compositions are suitable in particular as binders in two-component fillers for automotive refinishing or as two-component primers.
Abstract:
A method of producing a cured coating is described comprising the steps of:(A) applying a coating composition on a substrate, wherein the coating composition is a curable coating composition comprising:(1) a polymer comprising functional groups that are reactive with methylol and/or methylalkoxy substituents on the amino nitrogens of an aminoplast curing agent, and(2) an aminoplast curing agent that includes, as substituents on the amino nitrogens:(a) a plurality of methylol and/or methylalkoxy substituents, and(b) one or more substituents that are either nonreactive with the functional groups on the polymer or are reactive with the functional groups at a higher temperature than the temperature at which the methylol and/or methylalkoxy substituents are reactive with the functional groups, and(B) curing the coating at a cure temperature sufficient to react the functional groups on the polymer with the methylol and/or methylalkoxy substituents, but below the temperature for reaction, if any, between the functional groups and the (b) substituents.
Abstract:
A method for producing a novel evaporable dispersion is disclosed. The dispersion exhibits shelf-storage stability at room temperature for more than 1 year. Such a dispersion, upon evaporation of the evaporable components, is able to form a crosslinked surface coating on a substrate upon curing at room temperature or elevated temperature.

Abstract:
Light-stabilized polymer microparticles, which contain at least one light stabilizer and free epoxy groups, and processes for the preparation of these microparticles by polymerization of suitable monomers, at least one of these monomers being an epoxide which contains at least one further reactive group, and at least part of the polymerization being carried out in the presence of at least one light stabilizer, are described. The polymer microparticles can be used in coating compositions which comprise a disperse phase, containing these particles, and a liquid continuous phase.Coatings and paints based on the compositions according to the invention are distinguished by improved weathering resistance, in particular high light stability.
Abstract:
A novel aqueous dispersion type resin composition obtained by the method comprising polymerizing at least one .alpha.,.beta.-ethylenically unsaturated monomer in an aqueous medium containing a water soluble resin with an amphoionic group of the formula ##STR1## (in which R and Y are defined in the specification) and in the presence of an organic initiator, the solid weight ratio of said water soluble resin to said monomer being, 10:90 to 90:10. The aqueous coating composition based on said resin composition is excellent in storage stability, application characteristics and capable of resulting a coating with excellent film properties.
Abstract:
Water-soluble sulfonium salts are converted, without the elimination of odorous volatile by-products, to water-insoluble products useful as binders in coating formulations by heating a water-soluble cyclic sulfonium salt in which the sulfonium sulfur is bonded only to aliphatic carbons.
