Abstract: There is provided an overhead door that is placed on the roof board of a cabinet or the like to which it is fitted when it is opened so that the space available within the cabinet may be maximized. The overhead door 8 is swingably secured to the inner lateral wall surfaces 4, 4 of the cabinet 1 by means of a pair of support arms 14, 14 such that the distal end of each of the support arms is rotatably secured to a rotary shafts 15 on the corresponding lateral wall of the cabinet and the proximal end is pivotably fitted to the inner surface of teh door at a position close to the lower edge thereof by way of a bracket 16. The door 8 is provided on the inner surface thereof with a pair of longitudinally arranged slide rail assemblies 9, 9, each comprising a relatively long outer rail 9c and a relatively short inner rail 9d arranged vis-a-vis the outer rail and pivotably secured at the upper end to the front edge of the roof wall 2 of the cabinet 1 by means of a hinge 14 comprising hinge bodies 10a, 10b and an axis 10c. Thus, the door 8 can be swung closed as a combined effect of slewing and sliding motions when it is pulled forward and downward from its fully open position located on the roof board 2.

Abstract: A shear viscous damped hinge uses a negator spring and a high viscosity fluid to provide a relatively slow and controlled deployment of the hinge. Shear damping of the fluid slows the angular velocity of the hinge. The invention reduces the end of travel impact loads thereby reducing the risk of damage to the hinge and the object rotated by the hinge. The hinge is particularly useful in, but not limited to, spacecraft applications.

Abstract: A brake device for damping a translatory motion having a bearing housing and a brake disk both made of a resilient, hard elastic plastic material. Abstract: A mechanism for controlling the raising and lowering of a door comprising a speed reduction gearing, a high speed input shaft and a low speed output shaft connected to the gearing, and a governor mounted on the input shaft for regulating the input shaft's rotational speed. More particularly, the mechanism is provided with a brake having a movable brake shoe, a temperature sensitive link and an elongate member having a central portion coupled to the brake shoe. As well, the first portion of the elongate member is engageable with the temperature sensitive element and a second portion of the elongate member is engageable with the actuator. In this way, the elongate member is provided for moving the brake shoe to the release position in response to one of (1) the temperature sensitive link upon the temperature reaching a predetermined temperature and (2) the actuator.

Abstract: In a slow-acting rotary shaft device, a shaft, which rotatably supports a second member, includes a hollow shaft body latched to a first member inrotatably, a cap member outwardly inserted on an end portion of the shaft body rotatably and latched to the second member inrotatably, a torsion bar which has one end latched with the shaft body and another end latched with a cap member, and a viscous grease enclosed between the shaft body and cap members. When this device is used, the rotative member is rotated at a slow speed by a jumping up torque of the torsion bar in a rotation area up to a neutral point, while in a rotation area past the neutral point, the rotative member can be stopped at any position.

Abstract: An oven door is provided with a mechanism for controlling the rate of door opening and closing. The mechanism includes first and second parts pivotably connected to the oven body and oven door, respectively. Abstract: According to the invention, there is provided an input responsive damper comprising a worm wheel for being rotationally driven by an object of damping, a worm for being rotated by the worm wheel, a guide for movably guiding along the axis of the worm a worm support member rotationally supporting the worm, a biasing device for biasing the worm support member in the direction opposite to the direction of the biasing force of the worm wheel applied to the worm and a damping device having a combination of a magnet and a conductor arranged concentrically around the rotary axis of the worm, the magnet and the conductor rotating relative to each other, either of the magnet and the conductor being supported by the worm and the other being supported by a stationary member. This induction type damper provides greater than normal damping when greater than normal force is applied by the object of damping. Frictional type and fan type damping enhancement element are also disclosed. Such an input responsive damper has the capability of increasing its damping effect as it axially moves when it is subjected to excessively large rotary force without contacting the object of damping. Therefore, an input responsive damper can generate damping force automatically and reliably as a function of the applied rotary force without generating noise.
