Abstract:
An assembly includes a die and a punch which cut a hole in a workpiece. The die has a base wall having outer and inner surfaces and a passageway extending therethrough, and a wall extending from the base wall. The inner surface of the base wall has at least one portion which is angled relative to a central axis of the die. The punch includes a body having a bore therethrough, a leading edge on the body which is capable of piercing and cutting a workpiece, and cutting edges on the body for cutting a hole in the workpiece. The leading edge has inclined surfaces between the bore and the piercing points which engage with the portion of the inner surface of the die.
Abstract:
A method for mobile robotic based inspection includes delivery of inspection requirements identifying a part and one or more inspection mode types. A three-dimensional model of the part and one or more physical attributes or specifications of the aeronautical part are received. A plurality of different motion sequences for the robot inspection system are determined to evaluate a plurality of predefined points on the component using one or more sensors for the one or more inspection types. Data acquisition parameters are determined for inspection sequence to allow for collection of inspection data for one or more inspection modes. A motion sequence from the plurality of different motion sequences is selected based on one or more parameters. An optimized inspection program configured to update operating parameters of the robot inspection system to perform the selected motion sequence and capture data using the one or more sensors is generated.
Abstract:
A soil aerating apparatus movable along a soil surface in a first direction during soil aerating operations comprises a frame assembly and a plurality of reciprocating arm assemblies. Each arm assembly comprises a tine holder for retaining a tine, an upper arm pivotally attached between the tine holder and the frame assembly, a lower arm pivot attached between the tine holder and the frame assembly, wherein the lower arm is positioned below the upper arm, and a drive arm pivotally attached between a crankshaft and the lower arm. In an embodiment the crankshaft comprises a plurality of central shaft sections and a plurality of eccentric shaft sections, wherein each eccentric shaft section moves in the first direction when each eccentric shaft section is positioned above the plurality of central shaft sections during soil aerating operations.
Abstract:
A damper system includes a damper and a heater operably associated with the damper. The method includes heating the damper with heat energy from the heater and then monitoring and regulating the heat energy to the damper with a sensor and control subsystem.
Abstract:
In some aspects, a heat treatment process is described for precipitation hardening steel. The heat treatment process can include a solution treatment for a precipitation hardening steel part. The solution treatment includes heating the precipitation hardening steel part to an austenitizing temperature. The heat treatment process can also include a quenching or cooling treatment, in which the precipitation hardening steel part is cooled to a martensitizing temperature. The heat treatment process can also include an aging treatment, in which the precipitation hardening steel part is heated to a temperature of 1000° F. and held at that temperature for five or more hours until a fracture toughness of the precipitation hardening steel part is greater than 120 ksi√in.
Abstract:
A damper includes a housing that forms a fluidly sealed cavity for receiving a fluid therein. The fluid is configured to change fluid properties as electrical energy is induced. An electrical subsystem provides electrical energy to the fluid, which is monitored with a control subsystem. The method includes inducing the fluid with electrical energy to change the dampening effects of the damper in real time.
Abstract:
A method of managing aircraft exhaust includes providing hot air at a hot air mass flow rate, providing cold air at a cold air mass flow rate, and mixing the hot air and the cold air at a variable hot air mass flow rate to cold air mass flow rate ratio, wherein the variable hot air mass flow rate to cold air mass flow rate ratio is selectively maintained independent of at least one of (1) a variation in the hot air mass flow rate and (2) a variation in a translational speed of the aircraft.
Abstract:
A method of the present disclosure includes of repairing a core stiffened structure with structural foam. Another method includes splicing core members together using structural foam. Another method includes joining a core member to a structure using structural foam. Another method includes using structural foam to stabilize a core member during a machining process. Another method includes stabilizing a core member with structural foam to prevent the core member from crushing in autoclave pressure. The present disclosure further includes a core stiffened structure have a core member with structural foam therein.
