Abstract: The present disclosure describes projecting a structured light pattern onto a surface and detecting and responding to interactions with the same. A method includes-acquiring an image based on light reflected from a vicinity of the projection surface, and identifying regions of the acquired image that correspond to a feature that is within a specified distance of the projection surface by identifying regions of the acquired image for which intensity data differs relative to other regions of the acquired image and which fit a specified homographic relationship with respect to corresponding regions of a reference image.

Abstract: A replication tool for producing an optical structure comprising an optical element includes a central section having the shape defining a negative of a portion of the optical structure and a vertically aligned central axis; a surrounding section laterally surrounding the central section; and one or more contact standoffs defining a plane referred to as contact plane. In a first azimuthal range, the surrounding portion provides a first compensation surface facing away from the central axis, and in a second azimuthal range, the surrounding portion provides a second compensation surface facing away from the central axis. In any cross-section containing the central axis in the second azimuthal range, a steepness of the second compensation surface is higher than a steepness of the first compensation surface in any cross-section containing the central axis in the first azimuthal range.

Abstract: The invention relates to wafer-level manufacturing of optical devices such as modules comprising micro-lenses. In one aspect, passive optical components such as truncated lenses are manufactured by providing a substrate on which a multitude of precursor optical structures is present; and removing material from each of said multitude of precursor optical structures. Another aspect comprises a method for manufacturing a device comprising a set of at least two passive optical components, said method comprising the steps of using a tool obtained by carrying out the steps of manufacturing a precursor tool having a replication surface; and modifying said replication surface by removing material from said precursor tool. An yet another aspect comprises a method for manufacturing a device comprising a set of at least two passive optical components, wherein the method comprises the step of using a master comprising a replication surface comprising, for each of said passive optical components, a first portion describing a shape corresponding to the shape of at least a portion of the respective passive optical component, wherein the master comprises, in addition, at least one protruding portion protruding from at least one of said first portions of said replication surfaces.

Abstract: Fabricating optical devices can include mounting a plurality of singulated lens systems over a substrate, adjusting a thickness of the substrate below at least some of the lens systems to provide respective focal length corrections for the lens systems, and subsequently separating the substrate into a plurality of optical modules, each of which includes one of the lens systems mounted over a portion of the substrate. Adjusting a thickness of the substrate can include, for example, micro-machining the substrate to form respective holes below at least some of the lens systems or adding one or more layers below at least some of the lens systems so as to correct for variations in the focal lengths of the lens systems.

Abstract: The present disclosure describes optoelectronic modules (e.g., hybrid lens array packages) that have multiple optical channels, each of which includes at least one beam shaping element (e.g., a lens) that is part of a laterally contiguous array. Each optical channel is associated with a respective light sensitive region of an image sensor. Some or all of the channels also can include at least one beam shaping element (e.g., a lens) that is not part of a laterally contiguous array. In some cases, the arrays can include alignment features to facilitate alignment of the arrays with one another.

In an example process, a code scale can be created by coating an elongated generalized cylinder with one or more different layers of materials having different light reflective properties. Portions of these layers can be removed selectively in order to expose a particular overlying material and create a particular pattern of features having different optical characteristics (e.g., absorbing, specularly reflecting, diffusely reflecting).

Abstract: Optoelectronic systems include an array of optoelectronic modules and a computational unit. The array of optoelectronic modules and the computational unit are operable to collect data of a user of the optoelectronic system. The data can be used, for example, to authenticate the identity of the user by being used in multiple user authentication protocols. In some instances, facial recognition data can be augmented with three-dimensional data of the user and can be combined with iris recognition data to authenticate the identity of the user. Such optoelectronic systems can comprise hardware authentication systems external to auxiliary devices such as tablet computers and laptop computers.

The module includes a semiconductor die for the optical filter, where the die has a cavity in its underside.
