The aqueous emulsion paints according to the invention contain urea-formaldehyde white pigments having very characteristic physical properties. Compared with aqueous emulsion paints according to the prior art, which in addition to TiO.sub.2 can contain only a maximum of 20% by weight of UF white pigments based on the entire content of white pigments, according to the invention TiO.sub.2 may be substituted up to 100% by the UF white pigment. The resultant finishes are fast to light, weather and abrasion.

A mixture of (a) epoxide resin, (b) a cyanoacetyl compound of the formula ##STR1## wherein R is the radical of an alcohol or ether, and n is 1-4, as curing agent, and (c) a phenylurea derivative, such as monuron, as curing accelerator is characterized by good storage stability. The mixture can be used as casting resin, laminating resin, adhesive, surface-protective agent and moulding material, and the mixture yields, on being heated, cured products having homogeneous and good mechanical properties.

To manufacture highly disperse solids of crosslinked urea-formaldehyde polycondensation products consisting of primary particles with an average diameter not greater than 1 micron, an aqueous solution consisting essentially of water and a precondensate of urea and formaldehyde is converted into a crosslinked gel by the addition of sulphamic acid or a water-soluble ammonium hydrogen sulphate, in the course of which the molar ratio of formaldehyde:urea should be greater than 1.2 and not greater than 2.0 not later than at the time of the formation of the gel. The resulting gel is comminuted, dried and disintegrated. The powders are suitable for use as pigments, carriers and absorbents.

C. The reaction mixture optionally also contains polymerization catalysts. The manufacture of the polymers is as a rule carried out with simultaneous shaping. The invention relates to the manufacture of urea-formaldehyde condensation polymers containing sulpho groups. The starting material is a urea-formaldehyde precondensate, and a condensation polymer of naphthalenesulphonic acid and formaldehyde is used as the acid catalyst for the subsequent polycondensation of the urea-formaldehyde precondensate. The peculiarity of this polycondensation is that the condensation catalyst is incorporated into the polymer structure of the UF polymer.The products obtained according to the invention are distinguished by improved surface affinity coupled with interparticle porosity. They can be used as fillers, as adsorbents, as carriers and as thickeners.

According to the invention, polyaddition products containing imide groups are manufactured by reacting certain polyimides (preferably maleimides) with polyhydric phenols in the presence of basic compounds. The preferred embodiment (A) relates to the use of catalysts as basic compounds. In particular, tertiary, secondary or mixed tertiary-secondary amines can be used. A further embodiment (B) relates to the use of primary polyamines as basic compounds. In the latter case, the polyamine participates in the polyaddition mechanism, that is to say the molecules are incorporated into the polyaddition products. In this latter case, catalysts can also be used additionally.The invention can be utilized particularly in the fields of surface protection, the electrical industry, laminating processes and the manufacture of foamed plastics, and in the building industry.
