Abstract: A method and apparatus for detecting impairment of a vehicle operator are provided. The method includes detecting a first impairment level at a first time; detecting a second impairment level at a second time after the first time; based on the detected first impairment level and the detected second impairment level, determining a third impairment level at a third time after the second time; and inhibiting vehicle operation in response to determining that the third impairment level is greater than an impairment threshold. The apparatus and method may be used in a vehicle or other apparatus to prevent vehicle operator from operating the vehicle while impaired or prior to becoming impaired.

Abstract: A method for controlling access to a vehicle function includes communicating, between a vehicle controller and a portable controller, a plurality of signals. The plurality of signals include an authentication signal and a location signal. The method also includes processing, by at least one of the vehicle controller and the portable controller, the authentication signal during an authentication confirmation process to determine authentication of the portable device. The method further includes processing, by at least one of the vehicle controller and the portable controller, the location signal during a proximity confirmation process to determine whether the portable device is within a predetermined proximity of the vehicle. Additionally, the method includes providing access to the vehicle function of the component when the portable device is authenticated and the portable device is within the predetermined proximity of the vehicle.

Abstract: A vehicle includes two or more wheel assemblies, each having a wheel assembly sensor. Each of the wheel assembly sensors is configured to produce acceleration data and pressure data associated with its associated wheel assembly. A wheel assembly tampering module communicatively coupled to the plurality of wheel assembly sensors is configured to produce an output indicative of wheel assembly tampering based on at the acceleration data and the pressure data. Abstract: Systems and methods for theft deterrence of a vehicle are provided. Each of two or more immobilization point devices generate a random number and broadcasts it to all of the other immobilization points devices. Each of the immobilization point devices retains a local copy of its own random number and concatenates the local copy of its own random number with the random numbers of the other of the two or more immobilization point devices from the bus. From the random numbers broadcast on the bus, all of the random numbers are concatenated in a predetermined sequence to form a single challenge, which is transmitted to a remote transponder. Each of the immobilization point devices then compares a single response from the transponder to their local concatenation. When a specific portion of the response from the transponder matches a local concatenation, then enabling the function of the immobilization point device.
