摘要: A cooking apparatus for preparing food includes a vessel, a burner, an electrically controllable valve, a thermocouple and a thermally actuated switch. The vessel is configured for containing a fluid and the burner is positioned for providing a gas flame to the vessel. The valve is coupled between the burner and a gas source and the thermocouple is positioned to sense a temperature of the flame provided by the burner. The thermally actuated switch is serially coupled between the valve and the thermocouple. The switch provides a conduction path between the valve and the thermocouple, when a temperature sensed by the thermal switch is less than a predetermined temperature. The switch is integrally mounted to the vessel to sense a temperature of the fluid contained within the vessel.

摘要: This invention relates to an aerator apparatus having a plurality of porous tubes coupled to a blower. The blower forces air through the porous tubing into a mixing chamber. A propeller propels water into the mixing chamber. Air and water are mixed in the mixing chamber. The result being a highly oxygenated liquid, such as water. This invention also relates to a method to use the aerator apparatus attached to a floatable frame to diffuse a gas into a liquid. This invention also relates to a system for efficiently aerating a pond or column of water wherein a bubble generator is enclosed in a removable housing.

摘要: Methods for amplifying polynucleotides, e.g., by PCR, in a sample comprising polynucleotide targets present at very low concentration, comprising: (a) applying amplification reactants to the surface of a substrate comprising reaction spots, wherein the reactants comprise the sample and an amplification reagent; (b) forming a sealed reaction chamber, having a volume less than about 120 nanoliters, preferably less than about 20 nanoliters, over each of said reaction spots; and (c) thermal cycling the substrate and reactants. In one embodiment, the forming step comprises loading a sealing fluid, e.g., mineral oil, on the surface so as to cover the reaction spots. The present invention also provides microplates, comprising: (a) a substrate having at least about 10,000 reaction spots, each comprising a primer and a droplet of reagent having a volume less than about 120 nanoliters, preferably less then about 20 nanoliters; and (b) a sealing liquid isolating each of the spots.

摘要: The present invention provides an emerging security or authentication feature for identification documents and other objects. The security feature is constructed using two differently emission-decaying inks. The inks are arranged so as to convey a first pattern when they are both exited. A second pattern emerges as a first and more rapidly decaying ink decays, but while a second and relatively longer decaying ink still provides emissions. The second pattern can be alphanumeric characters, a barcode, a pattern that will yield a predictable frequency domain representation, a digital watermark, etc. In one implementation, the first pattern is a first machine-readable code and the second pattern is a second, different machine-readable code.

摘要: A method for making a secure identification document with multiple images is provided. Information is provided to an information bearing layer, the information constructed and arranged to be capable of providing multiple images when the printed information is viewed at different predetermined angles through an appropriate lens. At least a portion of the information is covered with a layer of a substantially a transparent film material. A lens profile is embossed onto a first portion of the substantially transparent film material, wherein the first portion of the substantially transparent film material comprises an area that is less than the entire layer of substantially transparent film material and wherein the first location substantially coincides with the location of the information. The lens profile forms a lens on a portion of the substantially transparent film material, the lens enabling the information viewed through the lens to display multiple images when the information is viewed at different predetermined angles.

摘要: A laser beam is used to mark a longitudinally moving web of paper both at intervals along its length and at plural locations across its width so that each of the sheets finally cut from the web bears a mark. The web passes over a cylinder having windows bearing masks carrying a logo or the like to be marked on the web. Mirrors are arranged on a drum assembly coaxially located in the cylinder to rotate therewith. The mirrors are disposed in helical sets extending along the axis of the drum to successively intercept a laser beam directed parallel to the axis of the drum and to reflect the beam to successive mask windows. The mirrors are plane mirrors set at 45.degree. to the axis and cause the beam to scan the mask in the circumference direction. The beam is collimated but not focussed and has a diameter that encompasses the transverse width of the mask. A ring mode laser beam is preferred.
