Abstract: The present invention relates to a process for manufacturing a film comprising high amounts of microfibrillated cellulose (MFC), having haptic properties. According to the present invention, a wet web comprising MFC is formed, followed by addition of particles having an average diameter of at least 1 μm to the wet web, followed by dewatering and/or drying. The wet web may be formed for example by wet laid or cast forming methods. The particles may be added to the wet web for example by cast coating or spraying.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a method for producing a film comprising nanocellulose, which method comprises: providing a suspension comprising 50-100 weight-% of nanocellulose based on total dry weight; forming a fibrous web of said suspension on a non-porous support; providing a press fabric comprising a web-side first surface and an opposite second surface, wherein said press fabric comprises a woven first fabric layer arranged in the press fabric as a layer providing said web-side first surface such that said press fabric has a woven surface structure at said web-side first surface; applying said web-side surface of said press fabric into direct contact with said web; wet-pressing said web by conducting said web, arranged between said press fabric and said non-porous support, through a pressing equipment, and drying the dewatered web so as to form said film. The invention further relates to a film produced from said method.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a method for manufacturing a multilayer film comprising highly refined cellulose fibers, the method comprising the steps of: a) forming a first wet web by applying a first pulp suspension comprising highly refined cellulose fibers on a first wire; b) partially dewatering the first wet web to obtain a first partially dewatered web; c) forming a second wet web by applying a second pulp suspension comprising highly refined cellulose fibers on a second wire; d) partially dewatering the second wet web to obtain a second partially dewatered web; e) joining the first and second partially dewatered web to obtain a multilayer web; and f) further dewatering, and optionally drying, the multilayer web to obtain a multilayer film comprising highly refined cellulose fibers; wherein at least one of said first and second pulp suspension comprises lignin at a concentration in the range of 0.1-50 wt %, based on the total dry weight of the pulp suspension.

Abstract: The invention discloses a paperboard comprising a base ply, a top ply, and an intermediate layer disposed in-between the at least one base ply and the top ply. The intermediate layer comprises pigment and microfibrillated cellulose (MFC). The application of an intermediate layer comprising pigment and MFC in-between the base ply and the top ply gives rise to improved optical properties of the paperboard, even when using an uncoated top ply having a low grammage. This makes it possible to reduce the grammage of top ply and still obtain good optical properties.

Abstract: The present invention is directed to a process for manufacturing a film or coating comprising high amounts of cellulosic nanomaterial. According to the present invention, a screen printing press, such as a rotary screen press, is used to create a film or coating comprising cellulosic nanomaterial. One benefit of the present process is that the suspension used in the printing process has a high dry content and high viscosity, thereby facilitating the process for manufacturing a film or coating comprising high amounts of cellulosic nanomaterial.
