A process for the production of a biaxially oriented propylene polymer film contains, in its single ply (or, if it is a multi-ply film, in its base ply) a low molecular weight resin, and the film has improved stretchability and other desirable physical properties, even though the propylene polymer of the sole or base ply is preferably a homopolymer. The n-heptane-insoluble fraction of the film has a chain isotacticity index, measured by means of .sup.13 C-NMR spectroscopy, of at least 85 to 94%. The sole or base ply contains less than 10% by weight of resin. The film is stretched in such a way that the product of tensile strength in the longitudinal and transverse direction is greater than 50,000 (N/mm.sup.2).sup.2. The film is made by, among other steps, carrying out the orientation in the longitudinal and transverse directions such that the product of the longitudinal stretching ratio and the transverse stretching ratio is.gtoreq.60.

The disclosed oriented, multilayer olefin polymer film comprises an olefin polymer base layer and at least one outer layer, which outer layer contains from 0.01 to 1% by weight, based on the weight of the outer layer, of approximately spherical ceramic particles. The outer layer can be heat-sealable or non-heat-sealable. The multilayer olefin polymer film is produced by a coextrusion process in which the coextruded film is biaxially stretched, heat-set, and optionally surface-treated. The resulting film is useful in packaging and as a printing surface or in laminates.

The heat-sealable outer layer contains a propylene copolymer and/or a propylene terpolymer and a mixture of an antiblocking agent having a mean particle diameter of from 3 to 5 .mu.m and a further antiblocking agent having a mean particle diameter of from 1 to 2.5 .mu.m. The invention relates to an opaque, matte, multilayer polypropylene film. It includes at least one base layer comprising polypropylene or a polypropylene mixture and fillers, and at least one outer layer which contains a mixture or a blend of two components I and II. Component I essentially contains a propylene homopolymer or a copolymer of an .alpha.-olefin having 2 to 10 carbon atoms or a terpolymer of an .alpha.-olefin having 2 to 10 carbon atoms or a mixture of two or more of said homopolymers, copolymers and terpolymers or a blend of two or more of said homopolymers, copolymers and terpolymers. An oriented, multilayer polyolefin film is described. It includes a base layer essentially containing polypropylene, and at least one heat-sealable outer layer. The heat-sealable outer layer contains from 0.1 to 0.5% by weight of SiO.sub.2 which has been subjected to organic aftertreatment coating and has a mean particle diameter of from 2 to 6 .mu.m, preferably from 4 to 5 .mu.m. The ratio between the mean particle diameter and the outer layer thickness is in the range from 3 to 11. A shrink film comprising at least one polyolefinic layer comprising polypropylene and a resin admixture is disclosed. The film processes a shrinkability of more than 20%, measured at 90.degree. C., in the transverse direction and of less than 8%, also measured at 90.degree. C., in the longitudinal direction. The film is manufactured by coextrusion followed by stretching in the longitudinal and transverse directions, whereby stretching in the longitudinal direction is performed such that the birefringence value .DELTA.n of the longitudinally oriented film does not exceed the range from 10.times.10.sup.-3 to 13.times.10.sup.-3.
