A plurality of horizontal pile jacks each having a plurality of butts are fitted in the radial, horizontal grooves of the sinker bed on the radially outer side of the pile sinkers so as to be slidable and tiltable; and a control unit is provided for controlling the pile sinkers and the pile jacks to slide and tilt the pile jacks and the pile sinkers. The control unit includes a plurality of sinker cams, a jack selecting device provided with a plurality of actuators, and jack cams. The horizontal arrangement of the pile jacks ebables the pile jacks to exert a reliable action on the pile sinker. A knitted article has at least a pile stitch portion of an optional pattern formed by the reciprocating turning operation of a needle cylinder. Pile loops can be formed on optional wales by the reciprocating turning operation of the needle cylinder regardless of the needle loop forming operations of the needles.

In order to manufacture a multilayer ceramic electronic component such as a multilayer ceramic capacitor, a long ceramic green sheet is prepared, and this long ceramic green sheet is fed along its longitudinal direction and is successively subjected to steps of printing conductor films on the surface of the long ceramic green sheet with conductive paste, drying the conductor films, punching out the long ceramic green sheet into ceramic green sheets of prescribed sizes at prescribed punching positions with respect to the location of the conductor films, and stacking the punched ceramic green sheets with each other. The long ceramic green sheet is punched out under two types of different registering conditions with respect to the conductor films in the punching step, and ceramic green sheets obtained under the two different types of registering conditions are stacked with each other in the stacking step, so that conductor films having the same geometry can define internal electrodes for a multilayer ceramic capacitor. Capacitance provided by the multilayer ceramic capacitor can be changed by changing the registering conditions with respect to the locations of the conductor films in the punching step.

The power transmission mechanism includes a first closed-bottom cylindrical member fit over a second closed-bottom cylindrical member and a bolt for axially pressing the members against one another. The first member receives torque from a motor and a double-sided tape is laid on an outer surface of the first member. Facing surfaces of the first and second members are tapered, and the circumferential wall with the double-sided tape is expandable diametrically. The bolt diametrically expands the circumferential wall pressed by the tapered surface. Thus, an adhesive force of the double-sided tape sandwiched between the circumferential wall and the roller tube is exerted to adhere the outer surface of the first member to an inner surface of a roller tube.
