    摘要: A system for extracting energy from the sun's rays including a bank of solar energy cells which generate electrical current when exposed to the rays of the sun, immersed in a bath of liquid formed to serve as a lens, concentrating the sun rays on the cells, and transmitting heat away from the cells. The cells are shaped so as to cause a trapping effect of radiation incident thereon. The improved solar converting unit additionally includes a method for preheating the interior thereof. The converting unit is preferably equipped with light gathering and focusing means thereby providing coherent optically output.

    摘要: This invention relates to a more cost effective construction of an air type flat-plate solar collector. More particularly the invention has reference to replacing the usual combination of insulation backing and a good thermally conducting metal black absorber surface by a single, specially grooved and blackened, foam insulation type absorber surface. The airstream flows mainly inside the grooves to minimize its contact with the transparent cover. This new configuration saves weight, materials and cost, and shows little or no loss in performance during steady state efficiency tests. Due to the low thermal capacity of the foam absorber surface the collector warms up very quickly and often the internal thermal switch will actuate the fan motor within five minutes after exposure to solar radiation. This low time lag allows it to collect more heat during a day with intermittent sunshine than a collector with identical efficiency but with a metal absorber of greater thermal capacity which takes longer to warm up.

At least one side of the liner or window drape backside is a radiant energy reflecting surface and another of said sides is a radiant energy absorbing surface. Thus, depending upon the season of the year, the system may be arranged to selectively provide the appropriate surface to optimize or minimize the radiant energy maintained within the structure.

    摘要: An apparatus is provided for trapping solar energy emitted from the sun for heating a fluid that could be subsequently used in turbines and the like. The apparatus includes an elongated vertical light pipe having an open end through which the visible spectrum of electromagnetic radiation from the sun passes to strike a tubular absorber carried adjacent the other end thereof. The light pipe has a coated interior surface of a low absorptivity and a high reflectivity at the visible wave lengths and a high absorptivity/emissivity ratio at infrared wave lengths. The tubular absorber has a coating on the surface thereof for absorbing visible wave lengths so as to heat the fluid passing therethrough. Infrared wave lengths are radiated from the tubular absorber back into the light pipe for heating fluid passing through a tubular coil wound thereon.

    摘要: This invention reduces a molten salt, solar central receiver's size, pressure loss and cost by using a loose-tight-loose twist, twisted-tape insert inside the receiver's tubes to enhance the tube's heat transfer coefficient. This twist staging is designed to provide a higher heat transfer coefficient in the receiver's central region where the solar flux is high and a reduced pressure loss at the low solar flux entrance and exit end regions. Because the twisted-tape enhances the tube's heat transfer ability it can be made larger in diameter than a smooth bore tube at an equivalent pressure loss. This reduces the number of tubes which results in a substantial reduction in receiver cost.
