摘要: This disclosure provides methods of making an enhanced activity nanostructured thin film catalyst by radiation annealing, typically laser annealing, typically under inert atmosphere. Typically the inert gas has a residual oxygen level of 100 ppm. Typically the irradiation has an incident energy fluence of at least 30 mJ/mm2. In some embodiments, the radiation annealing is accomplished by laser annealing. In some embodiments, the nanostructured thin film catalyst is provided on a continuous web.

摘要: A fuel cell assembly includes two or more plate assemblies stacked together. Each plate assembly includes a membrane electrode assembly (MEA) sandwiched between an anode plate and a cathode plate. At least one of the anode plate and the cathode plate has a first flow field on a side facing the MEA and a second flow field on a side facing away from the MEA. The first flow field is of a first uniform depth, and the second flow field is of a second uniform depth. In one configuration, the first and second uniform depths are the same.

摘要: A proton exchange membrane fuel cell stack includes two or more plate assemblies stacked together. Each plate assembly includes a membrane electrode assembly (MEA) disposed between a first plate and second plate. One of the first and second plates is an anode plate and the other is a cathode plate. The first and second plates each include a first side facing the MEA and a second side facing away from the MEA. The plates include flow fields on the first sides and gas manifold holes coupled to gas distribution passages of the fuel cell stack. The first plates each further include a flow path carrying gases from at least one of the gas manifold holes to the flow field of the first plate. The flow path is formed at least in part by channels on the second side of an adjacent second plate when the plate assemblies are stacked together.

摘要: A fuel cell assembly includes first and second compression members at first and second ends of the fuel cell assembly. A membrane electrode assembly (MEA) stack is disposed between the compression members. The MEA stack includes a fluid flow passage that allows gases to flow between the first and second ends of the fuel cell assembly. A fastening member connecting the first and second compression members and is disposed within the fluid flow passage of the MEA stack.

The thermal transfer element is configured and arranged for the transfer of at least a portion of the microstructured layer to a receptor while substantially preserving the microstructured features of that portion.

摘要: Membrane electrode assemblies are described that include an ion conductive membrane a catalyst adjacent to the major surfaces of the ion conductive membrane and a porous particle filled polymer membrane adjacent to the ion conductive membrane. The catalyst can be disposed on the major surfaces of the ion conductive membrane. Preferably, the catalyst is disposed in nanostructures. The polymer film serving as the electrode backing layer preferably is processed by heating the particle loaded porous film to a temperature within about 20 degrees of the melting point of the polymer to decrease the Gurley value and the electrical resistivity. The MEAs can be produced in a continuous roll process. The MEAs can be used to produce fuel cells, electrolyzers and electrochemical reactors.
