    Abstract: A pneumatic tire and vehicle wheel assembly, the wheel being of the split-rim type without a tire mounting well in the base portion of the rim. A support member is provided extending radially fr0m the base portion of the rim to contact and support the tread region of the tire when the tire is wholly or partially deflated. The support member is preferably of L-section so as to have a cantilever flange to contact the tire and is preferably heat-conductive. A lubricant is preferably included in the tire cavity which will be between the tire and support member when the former contacts the latter. The support member is preferably adjacent one of the bead seats of the rim to serve the secondary purpose of retaining the tire bead on said seat. The support member may be an integral, radially outer part of the wheel disc or a separate, annular component surrounding the base portion of the rim.

    Abstract: A rim for a pneumatic tire comprising two rim parts, the first rim part consists of a tire bead retaining flange and bead seating portion and is secured to a second rim part which comprises the other tire bead retaining flange. The second rim part is formed in the region adjacent the first rim part with a circumferentially extending radially outwardly projecting hump portion which is arranged to be capable of making air-tight sealing engagement with the bead of an associated tire seated on the first rim part. The second rim part also comprises a shallow well portion of sufficient depth to enable a tire bead to be passed over the hump portion.

    Abstract: An inflated tire mounted on a two-piece rim includes a lock member which normally blocks off access to the bolts fastening the two-piece rim together. The lock member may be removed to allow access to such bolts only upon removal of a sealing cap which allows the tire to deflate into a condition safe for the disassembly of such rim parts, to allow removal of the tire therefrom.

    Abstract: Each bead of a large pneumatic tire has permanently connected to its bottom an annular metal part serving as a bead seat and formed with a conical bearing surface. The rim for the tire has a fixed or movable axial stop member for each bead. Each axial stop member is formed with a conical stop surface, and the conical bearing surfaces are respectively engageable with the conical stop surfaces. Each pair of engaged bearing and stop surfaces is inclined with respect to the common axis of the tire and rim by an angle within the range of 10* to 30*. The structure prevents the tire and rim from slipping in rotation with respect to each other and is particularly adapted for use on construction equipment and the like.
