摘要: Aspects of the present invention provide novel multi-targeted microbiological screening and monitoring methods having substantial utility for monitoring and control of microbial growth and contaminants, microbiological processes, predictive microbiology, and for exposure and risk assessment. Microbial markers shared by both target and index microbes are used in novel methods for microbial monitoring, monitoring of microbial performance potential, trend analysis, and statistical process control (SPC) in processes or systems that are receptive to a plurality of genetically distinct microbes.

摘要: The present disclosure provides methods for measuring the number of CD4+ OX40+ Foxp3+ lymphocytes in a sample containing cancer cells and lymphocytes obtained from a subject by labeling lymphocytes that show CD4 expression in the sample, then labeling lymphocytes that show OX40 expression in the sample, then labeling lymphocytes that show Foxp3 expression in the sample, then measuring the number of CD4+ OX40+ Foxp3+ lymphocytes in the sample. Further provided are methods for determining the prognosis of a subject, predicting responsiveness of a subject having cancer to an OX40 agonist treatment, and methods for treating or delaying progression of cancer based on the number of CD4+ OX40+ Foxp3+ lymphocytes in a sample.

摘要: Provided herein are methods of culturing a microorganism. The method includes providing a container comprising one or more microorganisms and medium, wherein the microorganisms and medium form a start volume. The microorganisms and medium are cultured until the culture reaches a threshold indicator, wherein culturing comprises feeding one or more carbon sources to the culture and wherein the culture is at a threshold volume when the threshold indicator is reached. The method also includes harvesting a portion of the threshold volume to leave a residual volume that is 40% or less of the start volume and adding fresh medium to the container in an amount to return the volume of the culture to the start volume.

摘要: A rapid assay for determining the presence of bacteria in a sample, such as a contaminated food sample, is disclosed. The assay comprises contacting the sample with a bacteria-specific ligand associated with a substrate, wherein bacteria present in the sample bind the ligand; contacting the bound bacteria with a detection agent; detecting the presence of bacteria in the sample by measuring the quantity of detection agent associated with the sample.

摘要: The present invention provides sensor cells comprising a receptor that binds to an analyte indicative of the presence of an agent, where binding of the analyte to the receptor triggers a detection event that is indicative of the presence of the agent. In certain embodiments, the detection event is appearance of a reporter detectable by the naked eye. The present invention also provides uses of such sensor cells for detecting the presence of an agent in a sample.

摘要: A system and method for monitoring or detecting a level of biofilm growth in a fluid system and controlling operating parameters of the fluid system based a measured level of growth. The monitoring system and method comprises a dye injection system for periodically injecting dye into a portion of fluid from the fluid system, passing the portion of fluid though a narrow lumen tube to achieve laminar flow and using a light source and optical sensor to detect a transmission or emission indicating a level of biofilm growth in the tube corresponding to a level of growth on components in the fluid system. Information based upon the measurements or calculations made by the monitoring system may be used to manually or automatically alter various operating parameters to control the fluid system and aid in maintaining stable operation of the fluid system within preferred specifications.
