摘要: A medical device and method for artificial insemination are provided. The medical device has a shield and an arm secured to the shield at one end and extending outwardly from the shield. The arm is inserted into the cervical canal of a patient and the shield covers the external os of the patient. By inserting the medical device into a patient's cervical canal after insemination, a physical barrier that holds a semen sample within the cervical canal and prevents leakage from the cervical canal back into the vaginal cavity is established. The device may have a bore extending through the device for a catheter to pass through. The bore has a valve to allow passage of the catheter and prevent backflow of semen. The arm may have a circumferential bulge to help keep the device in place during use.

摘要: A light-inducible intracellular protein aggregation system is described herein, which provides invaluable tools to study the role of protein aggregates in proteinopathies and to screen for novel therapeutic compounds. The system generally comprises a cell expressing an alpha-synuclein polypeptide or another proteopathic polypeptide that self-aggregates under pathogenic conditions, operably linked to a photoactivatable polypeptide. Illumination of the photoactivatable polypeptide with light having a wavelength sufficient for photoactivation triggers irreversible accumulation of intracellular protein aggregates comprising the alpha-synuclein polypeptide or proteopathic polypeptide. The intracellular protein aggregates can be made to accumulate in real-time during the illumination, thereby enabling spatiotemporal control of protein aggregation. In some embodiments, the intracellular protein aggregates may exhibit pathologically-relevant properties of those found in disease-associated proteinopathies, such as irreversibility, auto-perpetuation (seeding) activity, and comprising misfolded proteins rich in beta-sheet conformation.

摘要: A device for launching a projectile along an intended flight trajectory includes a launching mechanism with a handle. A projectile having a longitudinal axis is disposed in the launching cord in a launch position prior to launch such that the projectile's longitudinal axis is perpendicular to a plane in which the launching cord is disposed. 摘要: The embodiments disclosed herein utilized RNA targeting effectors to provide a robust CRISPR-based diagnostic with attomolar sensitivity. Embodiments disclosed herein can detect both DNA and RNA with comparable levels of sensitivity and can differentiate targets from non-targets based on single base pair differences. Moreover, the embodiments disclosed herein can be prepared in freeze-dried format for convenient distribution and point-of-care (POC) applications. Such embodiments are useful in multiple scenarios in human health including, for example, viral detection, bacterial strain typing, sensitive genotyping, and detection of disease-associated cell free DNA.

The disclosed ice-phobic polymer formulations comprise one or more disclosed sidechain functionalized organosiloxane compound, one or more binder resin, and/or one or more lubricating liquid. The present disclosure further relates to articles comprising the disclosed ice-phobic polymer compositions, thereby providing articles having ice-phobic properties. 摘要: Disclosed herein are methods for preparing a hydraulic pre-concentrate enriched in rare earth elements and critical minerals, the method comprising: (a) contacting a raw material with a first base in an amount sufficient to adjust the pH to a value from about 4.0 to about 6.0, thereby forming a mixture comprising a first aqueous phase and a first solid concentrate; (b) separating the first aqueous phase from the first solid concentrate; (c) contacting the first aqueous phase with a second base in an amount sufficient to adjust the pH to a value from about 7.0 to about 9.0, thereby forming a mixture comprising a second aqueous phase and the hydraulic pre-concentrate; (d) removing the second aqueous phase and collecting the hydraulic pre-concentrate; wherein the raw material comprises rare earth elements; and wherein the hydraulic pre-concentrate is enriched in rare earth elements.

摘要: A method for detecting oncogenic growth and viability, and/or degree of cellular transformation and/or identifying an agent that inhibits cellular transformation is disclosed. The method including: providing a cellular sample, such as a sample of cells obtained from a subject or a cell line; culturing the cellular sample in low attachment conditions; and detecting growth and7or cell viability of the sample, wherein increased growth relative and/or viability relative to a control or control level indicative of basal growth and/or viability indicates cellular transformation. In some embodiments, the method includes introducing a n expression vector into cells of the cellular sample, wherein the expression vector comprises a gene product expression sequence being tested for transformation ability. In some embodiments the cellular sample is contacted with a test agent and growth and/or cell viability of the sample is determined to determine if the agent inhibits transformation.

摘要: A method for aerating water in a treatment basin includes positioning at least one bridge above an upper surface of the water in the basin; providing a retrievable mounting frame assembly; securing a guide rail assembly to the bridge; transporting the mounting frame assembly on a transport device to a selected position on the walkway near the guide rail assembly; securing a transfer crane to the walkway proximate the guide rail assembly; transferring the mounting frame assembly from the transport device for connection to the a one guide rail assembly; connecting the mounting frame assembly to the guide rail assembly to provide a supply of air to the first air distribution conduit; moving the retrievable mounting frame assembly from a first position above the upper surface of the water to a second position below the water; and initiating a flow of air to the first air distribution conduit.
