Abstract:
The invention is directed to a method of detecting a malignancy or a pre-malignant lesion in breast or other tissue, or a pathologic condition, by detecting the presence of single-chain or two-chain forms of matriptase in the tissue. The invention is further directed to a method of treating malignancies, which have the phenotype of matriptase production by administering a tumor formation inhibiting effective amount of concentrate of Bowman-Birk inhibitor (BBIC), or other matriptase inhibitor. The invention also is directed to nucleic acids encoding a matriptase protein or fragments thereof, and their use for structure elucidation and modeling to identify other inhibitors of matriptase, as well as to methods of identifying matriptase modulating agents, including activators and inhibitors.
Abstract:
An amplifier circuit includes an operational amplifier and a compensation circuit. The operational amplifier includes an amplifying stage for amplifying an input signal to generate an amplifying signal; and an output stage coupled to an output node of the amplifying stage for receiving the amplifying signal and generating an output signal according to the amplifying signal. The compensation circuit is coupled to the output stage and the amplifying stage for generating a compensation signal according to the output signal, and feeding the compensation signal back to the output node of the amplifying stage for compensating the amplifying signal.
Abstract:
A multi-cyclone gas/solids separator with reduced solids re-entrainment is disclosed. The separator uses a plurality of cyclones spaced horizontally apart from adjacent cyclones to process flue gas containing residual catalyst fines. Each cyclone has a body that has a feed inlet end for admitting gas and entrained solids into an annular space defined by a sidewall of the cyclone body and a cylindrical gas outlet tube axially aligned with the cyclone body. A solids outlet at an opposing end of the cyclone body has a tangential outlet for solids and a minor amount of gas through a sidewall of the cyclone body. A gas reflux opening is axially aligned with the outlet tube. The plurality of cyclones share both a common catch chamber for solids discharged from the solids outlet, and a common manifold for gas and entrained solids. A plurality of shields are positioned in the catch chamber to inhibit discharge of solids from the tangential outlet of the adjacent cyclones into a vicinity of an inlet of the gas reflux opening.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a method of inhibiting carcinoma progression wherein matriptase plays a role in a subject in need of such inhibition including administering to a subject an effective amount of a compound comprising two positively charged groups, which are the same or different. The groups are linked by a chemical group having a length of between 5 and 30 A, and preferably between 15 and 24 A. Diagnostic methods based on matriptase action and therapeutic methods involving inhibition of matriptase activity are provided.
Abstract:
Staged combustion in a single regenerator of a FCC unit is disclosed. The regenerator has a spent catalyst distributor at the top of the catalyst bed, and an air grid at the lower end of the bed. A baffle separates the catalyst bed into upper and lower stages. Excess oxygen is present in the lower bed; partial CO combustion mode is maintained in the upper bed. The baffle inhibits backmixing flux to achieve sufficient staging to burn the catalyst clean under partial CO combustion. This achieves a clean burn of the catalyst in a single regenerator vessel in the partial CO combustion operating mode. Surprisingly, the baffle also reduces catalyst entrainment in the dilute phase, thereby cutting particulate emissions from the regenerator and reducing cyclone wear.
Abstract:
A manufacturing process to produce a multi-layer plastic cutting board incorporating a decorative pattern and non-skid feature by a single manufacturing process, wherein the light weight plastic cutting board has different layers comprising a cutting face, a decal film, a reinforcement layer and a non-skid face are manufactured by a single process, wherein the manufacturer and designer can decide the layer combinations from two layers, three layers to as much as four layers by the controlling in production, wherein all layers are bonded together with permanent joint and rigid for everyday usage.
Abstract:
Disclosed is a process whereby diverse classes of materials can be 3D printed and fully integrated into device components with active properties. An exemplary embodiment shows the seamless interweaving of five different materials, including (1) emissive semiconducting inorganic nanoparticles, (2) an elastomeric matrix, (3) organic polymers as charge transport layers, (4) solid and liquid metal leads, and (5) a UV-adhesive transparent substrate layer, demonstrating the integrated functionality of these materials. Further disclosed is a device for printing these fully integrated 3D devices.
Abstract:
The invention discloses a method for implementing dual-homing, including: setting each one of any two core control equipment as a standby for each other, connecting a network entity belonging to one of the core control equipment with the two core control equipment through a primary link and a standby link respectively; setting the primary link connected with the core control equipment as activated, and setting the standby link connected with the core control equipment inactive; determining whether the core control equipment corresponding to the primary link is out of service, if the core control equipment corresponding to the primary link is out of service, activating the standby link; otherwise, continuously determining whether the core control equipment corresponding to the primary link is out of service. The invention also discloses another method for implementing dual-homing, by which the reliability of the network can be improved.
Abstract:
Systems and methods for the separation of a particulate-fluid suspension are provided. An apparatus for the separation of a particulate-fluid suspension can include an enclosed vessel having two or more sections disposed coaxially along a common longitudinal centerline, wherein a first section has a first cross sectional area and a second section has a second cross sectional area. A plurality of apertures can be disposed about the second section. The apparatus can have a cylindrical surface, parallel to the longitudinal centerline of the apparatus, disposed within the first section. A fluid distribution channel having a plurality of apertures can be disposed either about an exterior surface or an interior of the apparatus. A plurality of fluid conduits can provide fluid communication between the fluid distribution channel and the plurality of apertures distributed about the second section.
