Abstract: Methods and systems are provided for heating a dielectric preform material. An exemplary method includes inserting the preform material into a microwave cavity along a longitudinal axis of the microwave cavity and supplying the microwave cavity with microwave power having a frequency that corresponds to an axial wavelength along the longitudinal axis of the microwave cavity. The axial wavelength is greater than a length of the preform material along the longitudinal axis. The method includes heating the preform material within the microwave cavity by the microwave power and determining temperatures of the preform material at one or more locations on a surface of the preform material. The method further includes adjusting, based on the temperatures of the preform material, the microwave frequency to achieve substantially uniform heating at least on a sidewall of the preform material along the longitudinal axis.

Abstract: A method for forming a blend including graphene nanoparticles and a poly(styrene-co-methylmethacrylate), where the method includes melt mixing the poly(styrene-co-methylmethacrylate) and the graphene nanoparticles to obtain a nanocomposite and exposing the nanocomposite to microwave irradiation to bond the methyl methacrylate copolymer to the graphene nanoparticles, in which a content of the graphene nanoparticles is from 0.05 to 2 wt % based on the nanocomposites. A blend composition, including graphene nanoparticles and a poly(styrene-co-methylmethacrylate), where the graphene nanoparticles are dispersed in the poly(styrene-co-methylmethacrylate), the graphene nanoparticles are modified with microwave induced defects, and the free radicals of poly(styrene-co-methylmethacrylate) is bonded to the graphene nanoparticles at the defects.

Abstract: A three dimensional printing system is configured to form a three dimensional article of manufacture through a layer-by-layer process. The layers are formed by selectively adding photocure resin onto a lower face of the three dimensional article of manufacture. The three dimensional printing system includes a plurality of light engines that are configured to define a corresponding plurality of build fields in the resin. The plurality of build fields define one or more overlap zones. The plurality of light engines are configured to define extended threshold zones within the overlap zones that correspond to light engine edge defects and artifacts. A light engine applies a transparency value of less than a specified threshold over an extended threshold zone proximate to an edge of the build field corresponding to the light engine.

Abstract: A film-processing apparatus for manufacturing a film in a continuous process includes a continuous carrier belt; a film-casting zone depositing a cast film on the carrier belt; a shearing zone; an electric-field zone; a magnetic-field zone; an ultraviolet-radiation zone; an annealing zone; and a solvent-evaporation zone, wherein the continuous carrier belt is operable to move a cast film deposited thereon from the film-casting zone through the shearing zone, the electric-field zone, the magnetic-field zone, the ultraviolet-radiation zone, the annealing zone, and the solvent-evaporation zone such that the cast film is selectively treated in one or more of the zones in a continuous process. A pick up roll receives the cast film after the continuous carrier belt moves the cast film through the zones and is selectively treated.
