Abstract:
A fiber reinforced thermoplastic pipe member is obtained by a novel continuous process in which the reinforcement fibers are wrapped about the outer pipe surface in an unbonded condition while the pipe member continuously moves in a linear direction and which is followed by sufficient heating of the moving fiber wrapped pipe member to cause thermal bonding between the applied fibers and the pipe member. Automated apparatus for carrying out the continuous process is also disclosed.
Abstract:
A breathing circuit component includes an inlet, an outlet and an enclosing wall. The enclosing wall defines a gases passageway between the inlet and the outlet. At least a region of the enclosing wall is formed from a breathable material that allows the passage of water vapour without allowing the passage of liquid water or respiratory gases. The breathing circuit component may be the expiratory limb of a breathing circuit.
Abstract:
A method of manufacturing paint rollers includes the steps of extruding a cylindrical plastic core through a rotating extruder head, and securing an absorbent sheet material onto an outer surface of the core in a continuous process.

Abstract:
A method for making a fiber-reinforced ceramic matrix composite article is disclosed wherein a ceramic matrix material in the form of a glass powder is combined with a fibrous reinforcing material such as a fiber tow, and the powder and tow are transported into a hot zone wherein they are consolidated together by winding under tension onto a collection mandrel at a temperature above the annealing temperature of the glass. High density composites are provided without the use of subsequent high pressure consolidation treatments.
Abstract:
Windings of fiber compound materials are produced on a core in multicourseshereby the fiber arrangement may change from course to course. For this purpose a plurality of fiber coil carriers are arranged in sequence one after the other as viewed in the direction of core advancement. The fiber coil carriers are arranged coaxially relative to the core. The coils of fibers are supported by the fiber coil carriers. The r.p.m. of each fiber coil carrier is adjustable independently of the r.p.m. of any other coil carrier. Each r.p.m. is adjusted to be inversely proportional to the desired pitch of the fibers in the respective winding course. The direction of rotation of each coil carrier is also selectable independently of the rotational direction of any other coil carrier.
Abstract:
Apparatus providing in sequence a heat source for directing a flow of air under pressure at a temperature in the range of 250* to 800*C, a blower to direct a flow of cool air and a drive mechanism to produce motion between the heat source and blower relative to a resinous material to be cured at a speed whereby the material reaches a temperature of at least 170*C within a time interval of less than one minute and is then cooled.
Abstract:
A process for the manufacture of composite tubes which may be multiwalled which comprises the steps of (a) rotating a tube having a wall thickness small in relation to its overall diameter around its longitudinal axis, (b) moving a ribbon of flexible material past foam-dispensing means and depositing a layer of nascent foam upon one face of the said ribbon, (c) feeding the said coated ribbon tangentially onto the rotating tube at an angle to the longitudinal axis of the tube such that the said coated ribbon forms a spirally wound envelope around the tube and (d) causing or allowing the foam to expand and cure.
