This is to provide a coating film having a function of inhibiting adhesion of a biological substance, a method for manufacturing the coating film, a copolymer obtainable by polymerizing a specific monomer mixture, a composition for forming a coating film having a specific composition, a method for manufacturing a varnish containing a copolymer to be used as a raw material of the composition for forming a coating film which is used for forming said film, and a sol for forming the coating film. In particular, this is to provide a coating film obtained by the method comprising a process of applying a composition for forming a coating film which comprises a copolymer comprising a recurring unit containing an organic group of the formula (a) and a recurring unit containing an organic group of the formula (b) and a solvent onto a substrate; and a process of drying at a temperature of −200° C. to 200° C. (wherein Ua1, Ua2, Ub1, Ub2 and Ub3, and An− are as defined in the present specification and the claims).

A coating agent composition of the present invention contains photocatalyst particles composed of metal oxide in which an upper end potential of a valence band is 3 V (vs SHE) or more and a lower end potential of a conduction band is 0.16 V (vs SHE) or less. Moreover, the coating agent composition contains cuprous oxide particles, metal oxide particles without photocatalytic activity, a binder resin, and an organic solvent. Then, in 100 parts by mass of a non-volatile matter content of the coating agent composition, a content of the photocatalyst particles is 1 to 80 parts by mass, a content of the cuprous oxide particles is 0.1 to 5 parts by mass, and a total content of the photocatalyst particles and the metal oxide particles is 40 to 80 parts by mass.

Disclosed is a method of making an environmentally durable material, the method requiring providing a material comprising at least one functional group Fc, and subjecting the material to a free radical source such that substantially all functional groups Fc are eliminated but the material is not polymerized. In one embodiment, the functional group Fc is at least one of a nonaromatic carbon-carbon double bond, a hydrogen atom alpha to an aromatic ring, a hydrogen atom alpha to a carbon-carbon double bond, or a hydrogen atom attached to a tertiary substituted carbon. In another embodiment, functional group Fc is present in the material as a contaminant. In one exemplary embodiment, the material comprises from 0.05 to less than 15% by weight of functional group Fc, based on the total weight of the material.

The invention provides curable waterborne coating compositions comprising an aqueous dispersion (A) comprising an organic binder component (A1) comprising at least 5% by weight of a reactive component (a), based on the total weight of organic binder component (A1), and at least one crosslinking component (B). The reactive component (a) is substantially free of any heteratoms and is a not a crystalline solid at room temperature and comprises from (i) 12 to 72 carbon atoms, and (ii) at least two functional groups.The curable waterborne coating compositions of the invention show significantly improved pop resistance while also providing improved chip resistance, weathering resistance, flexibility, and/or scratch & mar resistance.
