    摘要: A direct injection system and control methodology for two-cycle crankcase compression engines wherein the injection timing is advanced from those normally utilized to avoid the incomplete combustion that results from the prior art method. The injection timing is advanced so that it occurs while the exhaust port is still open but it is timed in such a way that the injected fuel will not be swept out of the exhaust port before the exhaust port closes. The initiation of injection timing is adjusted in response to certain parameters such as engine speed and the volume of intake air flow. In addition, the effects of other cylinders sharing a common exhaust manifold is also compensated for.

Intake exhaust valve (30) rotates between intake passage (36) and exhaust passage (34) such that intake-exhaust port (28) is aligned with intake passage (34) during the intake cycle and aligned with exhaust passage (34) during the exhaust cycle. Use of a rotary valve eliminates vibration normally found when reciprocating intake valve and exhaust valve are used and also provides weight saving due to simplified manufacturing processes, fewer parts and a higher strength engine wall due to elimination of one opening port into the engine. Valve (30) is operated by electro-mechanical means (40) so that the point in the power cycle at which air is admitted and exhausted may be varied. Means (40) may also be used to vary the length of time the exhaust port or intake port is open.

    摘要: A porting system for two-cycle internal combustion engines has two exhaust ports located on diametrically opposed sides of the cylinder. A pair of intake or by-pass ports are symmetrically positioned on each side of the two exhaust ports. The flow of fuel mixture is laminar and has a pattern which is inward and slightly upward from each intake port. As incoming streams collide, the gas flows upwardly and forms two mushrooms. Then, the flow is downwardly along the cylinder axis. The downward flow divides into two streams flowing radially outwardly from the center of the cylinder and out the two exhaust ports. With this flow pattern, there is a minimum of mixing of intake and exhaust gases, and as compared to the prior art, more unburned gas is retained in the cylinder to improve power output and reduce fuel consumption.

    摘要: An internal combustion engine includes a power cylinder, a power piston reciprocating therein and an auxiliary piston reciprocating within an auxiliary cylinder. Passages connect the upper end of the auxiliary cylinder to a combustion chamber and a source of air. Rotating valves or conventional reciprocating valves control the intake of an air/fuel mixture into the supercharging cylinder, transfer the mixture to the main or power cylinder and exhaust combusted gases from the main cylinder. An expansion chamber is placed in communication with the power cylinder at the beginning of the power stroke to permit an overcharge of air/fuel mixture to be transferred to the combustion chamber.

    摘要: A two-stroke cycle diesel engine having at least one two-stroke cycle power cylinder-piston assembly incorporating uniflow scavenging and having two horizontally opposed pistons, at least first and second scavenging ports and two crankcases which may perform crankcase compression; a pump assembly including at least one scavenging pump cylinder-piston assembly of the reciprocating type which is separate from and is driven by the power cylinder-piston assembly; a scavenging air introducing device which introduces scavenging air compressed by the pump assembly to the first and the second scavenging ports through first and second passage systems, respectively; and a fume generating device incorporated in the second passage system and supplying fuel mist in an initial part of the air supplied through the second passage system; wherein the fume is supplied as stratified with exhaust gases so as to be heated by the exhaust gases toward decomposition and then the first passage system is interrupted before the pump assembly reaches its top dead center so that thereafter the scavenging air compressed by the pump assembly is all supplied to the second scavenging port thereby generating strong swirl flows in the power cylinder.
