    摘要: Proposed is a polyvinyl alcohol molding resin composition exhibiting excellent workability in the molding procedure by extrusion and injection and capable of giving molded articles, e.g., films and sheets, having excellent properties in respect of good appearance and excellent resistance against coloration by heating. The molding resin composition comprises a polyvinyl alcohol and a limited amount of an additive ingredient which is an alkali or alkaline earth metal salt of organic sulfonic acid, e.g., sodium and calcium dodecylbenzene sulfonates, a polyoxyethylene ester of phosphoric acid or a combination thereof.

    摘要: A stainable polymeric sheet material adapted to the production of a light polarizer therefrom is provided by a method, according to which, a support sheet of amorphous polymeric material is uniaxially stretched in a first direction (at or above the glass transition temperature of the polymeric support material), a layer of polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) is coated from an aqueous PVA-containing composition onto the uniaxially stretched support material, and the PVA-coated uniaxially stretched polymeric sheet material is stretched along a second direction, at an angle within about .+-.60 degrees to a normal to the first direction of stretch. The method provides a material which can be converted, by incorporation of visible dichroism into the PVA layer, to a light polarizer which combines efficient light polarizing properties and good mechanical strength and resistance to fracture along the stretch directions.

    摘要: A soft contact lens of PVA having a tensile strength of not less than 10 kg/cm.sup.2, a water content ranging from 40 to 95% by weight, a visible light transparency of not less than 90%, and an oxygen permeability of not less than 30.times.10.sup.-11 cm.sup.3.(STP).cm/cm.sup.2.sec.mmHg. This soft contact lens can be prepared by forming a solution of PVA in a mixed solvent of water and an organic solvent, pouring the PVA solution in a mold having a shape of contact lens, and crystallizing at a temperature of not more than ordinary temperature. The soft contact lens has a high mechanical strength, high water content, high transparency and high oxygen permeability.
