Abstract: This disclosure is directed to techniques for determining respective locations of radio-frequency identification (RFID) tags distributed within a materials handling facility using planogram data that indicates respective item locations of items in the facility. In some examples, the techniques utilize item-identifying carts that automatically identify items that the users place in their carts as they move around a facility. Upon identifying an item, the identity of the item may be provided from the cart to one or more servers, along with an indication of an RFID tag detected by an RFID reader mounted to the cart. Upon receiving the identity of the item and the indication of the RFID tag, the servers may access the planogram data for the facility to determine an item location of the item within the facility and may associate this item location as the location of the RFID tag.

Abstract: A system and method of setting and charging a fixed donation amount provides a convenient contactless payment for donations. The system includes at least one portable donation terminal and at least one administrator personal computing (PC) device. The portable donation terminal is communicably coupled to the administrator PC device. An administrator may be a cashier, a clerk, a clergy member, and so on. The method begins by outputting a fixed charging amount with the portable donation terminal. Donation information is received through the portable donation terminal. The donation information is processed for the fixed charging amount. An administrator is prompted to generate a receipt of the fixed charging amount for the donation information. At least one remote server may also be communicably coupled to the administrator PC device in order to provide a reference identifier for the receipt. The receipt is outputted with the administrator PC device.

Abstract: Embodiments of the present disclosure relate to the field of point of sale (POS) systems, and more specifically, to reading RFID tags at or near POS transaction stations. In an embodiment, the present invention is a method of operating a POS system having a radio frequency identification (RFID) reader where the POS system is in contact with a product database. The method comprises providing a transaction station configured to be operated by an employee; detecting a presence of the employee at the transaction station; reading, via the RFID reader, an RFID tag associated with a product; causing the reading of the RFID tag to be reflected in the product database when the employee is detected; and causing the reading of the RFID tag to not be reflected in the product database when the employee is not detected.

Abstract: A valuable media sanitizing/cleansing cassette is provided for sanitizing/cleansing surfaces of valuable media dispensed to a consumer during a dispense transaction at a transaction terminal. Dispensed media is urged from one or more media cassettes within the terminal along a transport path. The transport path is altered to pass the media through the sanitizing/cleansing cassette where the top and bottom surfaces of the media are illuminated with Ultraviolet (UV) radiation to eradicate any bacteria or virus that may be adhered to the top or the bottom surfaces of the media. Once the media passes through the sanitizing/cleansing cassette, the now sanitized/cleansed media is urged along a remainder of the transport path and dispensed from a media interface of the terminal to the consumer. In an embodiment, media deposited at the terminal is also sanitized/cleansed by passing through the sanitizing/cleansing cassette before being stored in the appropriate media cassettes.
