Abstract: Plants, processes, and methods for reducing the H2S and CO2 contents of shale gasses from fields that produce shale gasses having varying H2S and CO2 contents are provided. Acid gas enters an absorber and is scrubbed using a lean physical solvent, producing a treated gas and a rich physical solvent. The H2S content of the treated gas is further reduced in an amine absorber, producing a pipeline gas and a semi-lean amine. The pipeline gas contains lower levels of H2S and CO2 than gas produced using a polishing bed. A physical solvent regeneration unit regenerates the lean physical solvent from the rich physical solvent for feeding into the absorption unit. An amine regeneration unit regenerates the lean amine from the semi-lean amine for feeding into the amine absorber. Contemplated plants may further comprise a Claus Unit or a Redox unit for oxidizing H2S to elemental sulfur.

Abstract: A system for reducing SO2 emissions comprises a hydrogenation reactor, a tail gas cooler, a contact condenser, a hydrolysis reactor, and an absorber. The hydrogenation reactor is configured to receive a Claus tail gas and convert at least a portion of SO2 in the Claus tail gas to H2S to produce a hydrogenated Claus tail gas stream. The hydrolysis reactor is configured to convert at least a portion of COS to H2S. The absorber comprises an amine-based solvent and is configured to absorb at least a portion of the H2S and recycle the H2S to the Claus plant.

Abstract: A method of producing syngas comprising receiving raw syngas from a gasification unit; introducing the raw syngas and water to a syngas scrubber to produce unshifted syngas; introducing a first portion of unshifted syngas to a first cooling unit to produce cooled unshifted syngas and a first aqueous condensate comprising cyanide in an amount of 5-200 ppmw; recycling the first aqueous condensate to the syngas scrubber; introducing a second portion of unshifted syngas to a water gas shift unit to produce shifted syngas; introducing the shifted syngas to a second cooling unit to produce cooled shifted syngas and a second aqueous condensate comprising cyanide in an amount of less than 2.5 ppmw; contacting the cooled shifted syngas with the cooled unshifted syngas to produce modified syngas; and introducing the second aqueous condensate to a sour water stripper to produce stripped water and an acid gas comprising H2S, CO2, and ammonia.
