In a case in which a local solution to current-voltage characteristics is generated by way of a partial shade, it has been difficult to perform control for causing a solar cell to operate at a maximum power point efficiently in terms of power and at a low cost. During steady state operation, an MPPT control unit 1 for performing the normal hill climbing method is selected, and if the change amount of the output current of the solar cell is greater than or equal to a predetermined threshold, an MPPT control unit 2 for increasing the variation width of the output voltage of the solar cell to greater than the hill climbing method is selected. By way of such control, it is possible to achieve both efficient operation in a steady state and avoidance of a local solution to a partial shade at a low cost.

The porous metallic material of the present invention has an overall porosity of 80 to 99%, and a skeleton in a three dimensional network structure which is entirely composed of a sintered metal powder having a porosity of 10 to 60%. The specific surface area is very high, for example, 300 to 11000 cm.sup.2 /cm.sup.3. The porous metallic material can be reinforced by a reinforcing plate. The porous metallic material is also suitable for an electrode of an alkaline secondary battery and enables achievement of increases in the life and the amount of the active material contained therein. The porous metallic material can be produced by preparing a foamable slurry containing a metal powder, forming the foamable slurry, drying the formed product, preferably after foaming, and finally burning the dry formed product.

An electrode for an ignition distributor of an internal combustion engine is disclosed which is made of a copper-based sintered alloy. The alloy contains a copper matrix, and grains of Al.sub.2 O.sub.3 having an average grain size of 10 to 100 .mu.m. The Al.sub.2 O.sub.3 grains are dispersed uniformly in the copper matrix at a ratio of from 45 to 60 percent by surface area as measured in an arbitrary cross-section. The electrode of this construction exhibits very low capacitive-discharge current peaks and starting voltages, and hence the generation of radio wave noise can be substantially eliminated.

In order to provide a system which detects and classifies abnormality in a solar battery even during power generation, an output voltage and an output current of the solar battery during power generation are detected, and a solar battery characteristic equation and a threshold value for detecting an abnormal state are calculated using the detected voltage value and current value and the measurement data of an external environment measurement unit. The kind of abnormal state of the solar battery is classified using the calculation result of the characteristic equation and the threshold value.

The present invention relates to a Cu-based sintered alloy which has a composition containing: Zn: 10-40%; Al: 0.3%-6% oxygen: 0.03-1%; any one selected, as an additional element from the group including at least one of Fe, Ni and Co: 0.1-5%, Mn: 0.1-5%, Si: 0.1-3%, and at least one of W and Mo: 0.1-3%; and the remainder including Cu and inevitable impurities. The alloy is superior in wear resistance particularly in air at temperatures ranging from the ordinary temperature to 400.degree. C., has high strength and high toughness, and further excels in the uniform temporal change characteristics with associated members, as evaluated by its friction coefficient. The invention relates also to parts for automotive equipment made of this Cu-base sintered alloy, such as synchronizer rings for transmission, valveguides for engines, bearings for turbo-chargers and so forth.

In order to provide a calculation method for reproducing solar cell characteristics with high accuracy by using data of a short-circuit current, an open-circuit voltage and the maximum power operation point of a solar cell in a temperature and a solar radiation intensity in a standard state, parameter values for determining characteristics in the standard state are calculated by using data of the short-circuit current, the open-circuit voltage and the maximum power operation point of the solar cell in the temperature and the solar radiation intensity in the standard state. Next, temperature coefficients of the open-circuit voltage and the reverse saturation current are calculated by using the calculated parameters, and a short-circuit current, an open-circuit voltage and the maximum power operation point at a given temperature are calculated.

For manufacturing the precious metal article, a moldable mixture which contains a precious metal powder and a binder removable by sintering is shaped into a prescribed molded object, and the molded object is then subjected to sintering. The moldable mixture is produced by preparing a precious metal powder, preparing a jellylike cellulose binder by blending a cellulose with water and leaving for a prescribed period of time, and blending the precious metal powder and the jellylike cellulose binder together. The most preferable moldable mixture contains 50 to 90% by weight of precious metal powder, 0.8 to 8% by weight of water-soluble cellulose binder, 0.08 to 3% by weight of a surface-active agent. 0.1 to 3% by weight of oil, balance water and unavoidable impurities. The precious metal powder preferably contains gold powder and powder of an alloy containing silver or copper, and the gold powder is obtained by submerged-reduction method.
