A headspace sample introduction device which collects a sample gas from a sample container and introduces the gas into a predetermined analyzer is provided. The device includes a sample tray 10 capable of holding at least one sample container 100 storing a liquid sample or a solid sample, a heating means 30 for heating at least one sample container 100 taken from the sample tray 10, a sample-gas collecting means 40 for collecting a sample gas from the upper space in the sample container 100 held in the heating means 30, and a cooling transfer means 20 for keeping and cooling at least one sample container 100 taken from the heating means 30 and returning the cooled sample container 100 to the sample tray 20. Since the headspace sample introduction device can return the heated sample containers 100 to the sample tray 10 after they are cooled with the cooling transfer means 20, the hot sample containers can be assuredly prevented from contacting the user.

A first substrate which includes a reflective layer including an opening portion, a heat insulating layer including an opening portion in a position overlapped with the opening portion of the reflective layer over the reflective layer, a light absorption layer covering the opening portion of the reflective layer and the opening portion of the heat insulating layer over the heat insulating layer, and a material layer over the light absorption layer is used. While one surface of the first substrate is disposed close to a deposition target surface of a second substrate, the first substrate is irradiated with light from the other surface of the first substrate. The irradiation light is absorbed in the light absorption layer in the position overlapped with the opening portion of the reflective layer to heat an evaporation material. The heated evaporation material is evaporated onto the second substrate.

Several interrelated methods are described for guaranteeing the authenticity of a fuel cartridge that will supply methanol, hydrogen, or other fuel to a fuel consuming device apparatus. Specific fuel consuming device constructions must mate with specially designed fuel cartridges to ensure that the fuel will flow properly, that the fuel supplied is of sufficient quality and composition as required, and that will be leak-proof during storage, transport, and use. Several designs that will meet all of these requirements are described below. Each of the fuel cartridge designs will result in an acceptance by the fuel consuming device if the authentication criteria are met and rejection of the cartridge if they are violated.
