An alkali-free glass consists essentially of, in mass percent, 58-70% SiO2, 10-19% Al2O3, 6.5-15% B2O3, 0-2% MgO, 3-12% CaO, 0.1-5% BaO, 0-4% SrO, 0.1-6% BaO+SrO, 0-5% ZnO, 5-15% MgO+CaO+BaO+SrO+ZnO, 0-5% ZrO2, 0-5% TiO2, and 0-5% P2O5. The alkali-free glass contains substantially no alkali metal oxide and has a density of 2.45g/cm3 or less, an average coefficient of thermal expansion of 25×10−7/° C.-36×10−7/° C. within a temperature range between 30 and 380° C., and a strain point not lower than 640° C.

There is provided a structure for connecting a piston to a crankshaft in an internal combustion engine, including a piston pin fitted into the piston, a crankpin integral with the crankshaft and a connecting rod having a piston pin bearing portion slidably engaged with an outer cylindrical portion of the piston pin and a crankpin bearing portion slidably engaged with an outer cylindrical portion of the crankpin. At least one of the piston pin bearing portion of the connecting rod and the outer cylindrical portion of the piston pin and at least one of the crankpin bearing portion of the connecting rod and the outer cylindrical portion of the crankpin have hard carbon coatings formed thereon with a hydrogen content of 20 atomic % or less.

There is provided a lamp circuit for automobiles which complies with DRL illumination and reduces the number of electrically functional components and circuits. The lamp circuit for automobiles includes a DRL controller complying with DRL illumination, a lamp switch box, and a DRL relay which is also used for the head lamps. The DRL relay has two contact points, a common contact point, and two coils. This allows only one relay to be provided within the area in which two relays have conventionally been applied, thereby reducing the number of relays and necessary circuits.

A prepreg for fiber-reinforced composite materials comprising (A) a reinforcing fiber having a modulus of elasticity of 200 GPa or more, (B) a fibrous thermoplastic resin having a modulus of elasticity of 100 GPa or less, and (C) a thermosetting matrix resin. The prepreg of the present invention does not only have excellent handling property equivalent to that of the prepreg with the conventional thermosetting resin as a matrix, but also gives excellent toughness to the resulting molded product without injuring the thermal and mechanical properties. Particularly, it has a high resistance to interlaminar fracture when exposed to impact, so that it is preferably used as a structural material for airplanes, etc.
