The present invention relates to a repair and reinforcement method for preexisting structures such as buildings or the like, and in particular, relates to a repair and reinforcement method for concrete structures, and to an anisotropic textile employed in this method. The present invention provides a method which permits execution even in low temperature conditions, and which moreover exhibits superior repair and reinforcement effects in a short period of time; during the impregnation of a resin into a sheet material comprising reinforcement fibers and the curing of this resin to form a fiber-reinforced resin layer which is used in the repair and reinforcement of preexisting structures, a reactive mixture having a gelling period of 15 minutes or more at a temperature of 20° C. and which polymerizes even at 5° C. and is curable within 6 hours, and which has as chief components thereof a monomer containing vinyl groups and a reactive oligomer having vinyl groups and/or a thermoplastic polymer, is employed as the resin. Furthermore, the present invention provides an anisotropic textile for use in the repair and reinforcement of preexisting structures.

The present invention provides shaped articles having good transparency and high oxygen permeability in a specific direction thereof, which have been made from a block copolymer (a) composed of a polyalkyl methacrylate segment and a silicone-based polymethacrylate segment, or a block copolymer (b) or graft copolymer (c) containing a polyorganosiloxane as one component, according to a process permitting the creation of a specific higher-order structure. These shaped articles have high oxygen permeability at relatively low silicone contents and, therefore, can provide oxygen-permeable products having high tear strength and surface hardness.

An antistatic agent capable of imparting a permanent antistatic property to a methacrylic resin is prepared as follows. First, an alkyl methacrylate is subjected to living polymerization in an atmosphere substantially free of water in the pressure of at least one compound acting as a source for supplying an anion selected from HF.sub.2.sup.-, (CH.sub.3).sub.3 SiF.sub.2.sup.- and F.sup.- by using as an initiator a compound represented by the formula (I) or (II): ##STR1## wherein R is H or CH.sub.3 and R.sup.1 is H or alkyl; second, a methacrylic acid ester comprising at least 80 mole % of a methacrylic acid ester represented by the formula (III): ##STR2## wherein R.sup.2 is alkyl and m is from 1 to 6, is subjected to living polymerization in the presence of the polymer obtained in the first step, to prepare a di-block or tri-block copolymer; and then, amino groups of segments derived from the methacrylic acid ester of the formula (III) in the block copolymer are quaternized.

A comb copolymer consisting of a methacrylic macromonomer as a branch ingredient and acrylic ester as a backbone ingredient and being suitable for an acrylic elastomer material which is excellent in transparency, weatherability and mechanical strength; an impact resistant acrylic resin composition obtained by blending the above comb copolymer with a PMMA (co)polymer; and a comb copolymer similarly consisting of a methacrylic macromonomer as a branch component and acrylic ester as a backbone component and being an acrylic resin which is excellent in transparency, weatherability, gloss and light resistance, are disclosed in this invention.Preparation methods of the high molecular weight comb copolymers useful for molding materials comprising the above mentioned comb copolymers are disclosed. The disclosed preparation methods comprise, in the copolymerization of the macromonomer having a vinyl group at one end of the main chain with a vinyl monomer, conducting aqueous suspension polymerization of the monomer mixture in the presence of an initiator in a solvent which is a good solvent for the macromonomer and has a solubility of 10% by weight or more in water at 30.degree. C., or conducting aqueous suspension polymerization of the monomer mixture in the presence of an initiator in a halogenated hydrocarbon solvent which is a good solvent for the macromonomer and has an azeotropic point with water ranging from 30.degree. to 90.degree. C. at a temperature above said azeotropic point.

A multi-layer structure polymer composition having a gel content of at least 50% which is constituted of an innermost layer polymer (A) consisting mainly of alkyl acrylate and having a degree of swelling of 10 or lower, and having a glass transition temperature lower than 10.degree. C., a crosslinked elastomer polymer (B) consisting mainly of alkyl acrylate and having a degree of swelling slightly higher than that of said polymer (A) and having a glass transition temperature not higher than 0.degree. C., said innermost layer polymer (A) and said crosslinked elastomer polymer (B) constituting a double layer elastomer structure polymer, as well as an outermost layer polymer (C) consisting mainly of alkyl methacrylate and having a glass transition temperature not lower than 60.degree. C., and at least one intermediate layer (D) existing between said polymer (B) layer and said polymer (C) layer, the amount of alkyl acrylate in said intermediate layer (D) linearly decreasing from said polymer (B) layer to said polymer (C) layer. Said polymer composition does not readily show the phenomenon of whitening even if dipped in hot water or boiling water and is excellent in weather resistance, solvent resistance, stress-whitening resistance, water-whitening resistance and transparency.

A novel acrylic thermoplastic resin composition, transparent and excellent in flexibility, consisting of at least two different multi-layer structure polymers. Polymer [I] contains an inner layer of crosslinked acrylic elastomer and an outer layer of acrylic resin, wherein the amount of elastomeric inner layer is minor in comparison with the amount of the resin outer layer; polymer [II] has the same fundamental polymer structure as multi-layer structure polymer [I] except that the amount of crosslinked elastomer inner layer is a major amount as compared to the amount of resin outer layer. It is preferred that an intermediate layer having an intermediate property exist between the inner and outer layers of the multi-layer structure polymers.
