Abstract: Disclosed herein are systems and methods for low power excitation of wireless power transmitters configured to transmit high power. The exemplary systems and methods include disabling a power factor correction circuit of the transmitter, and adjusting one or more variable impedance components of the impedance network to obtain a minimum attainable impedance. The variable impedance components can be configured to operate between the minimum attainable impedance and a maximum attainable impedance. The systems and methods can include adjusting a phase shift angle associated with one or more transistors of the inverter and driving the transmitter such that the transmitter resonator coil generates a magnetic flux density less than or equal to a field safety threshold.

Abstract: A charging apparatus for electric or plug-in hybrid vehicles includes a stationary inductive coil fixed in a position adjacent to a parking spot for the vehicle so that a charging surface of the stationary inductive coil is aligned substantially vertically. The charging apparatus further has a movable electric coil assembly that is magnetically mountable to a brake component of the vehicle and having a charging surface aligned with the charging surface of the stationary inductive coil when the vehicle is parked. A charging cable extends from the stationary inductive coil and has a plug that is electrically connectable to a charging outlet of the vehicle. The vehicle is parked with the inductive coils aligned so that an inductive charging operation can be carried out.

Abstract: A coil unit includes: an electric power reception portion of an electric power reception device mounted on a vehicle; and a control device. The electric power reception portion includes a secondary side coil and a secondary side capacitor that are connected in series. The secondary side coil receives an AC electric power transmitted in a contactless manner from the electric power transmission device. When receiving the AC electric power transmitted in a contactless manner from a primary side coil of the electric power transmission device, the secondary side coil that generates a reverse-phase current with respect to the primary side coil. A capacitance of the secondary side capacitor is set in accordance with a resonance point on a high frequency side of two resonance points in accordance with the secondary side coil and the secondary side capacitor.

Abstract: Techniques for converting power received from a power grid at a first voltage and outputting a signal at a second voltage are discussed herein. A power converter with a transformer that has a 22.5 degrees phase shift between current output by corresponding pairs of secondary windings can be utilized to convert power of a first level to power of a second level. The transformer can output power from 30 secondary windings. The power converter can output power with a total harmonic distortion of 5% and an efficiency of 96% or higher. Further, power can be output by a transmission coil and received by a receive coil in a device, such as a vehicle, to wirelessly charge the vehicle.

Abstract: A charger for a vehicle includes a power factor correction (PFC) stage to convert AC input power to DC power; an inverter stage; and a transformer having first, second, and OBC coils, each being magnetically coupled for transmitting power therebetween. The OBC coil is connected to the inverter stage, a high-voltage (HV) power converter is connected to the first coil to charge an HV battery connected thereto, and a low-voltage (LV) power converter is connected to the second coil to charge an LV battery connected thereto. The charger is operable in an onboard charger (OBC) mode to transfer the input power to charge the HV battery from the AC input power. The charger is also operable in a DC-DC mode to transfer power from the HV battery to the LV battery, and a wireless power transfer (WPT) mode to receive power from a transceiver coil for charging the HV battery.
