摘要:
A method and apparatus produces a roll formed bumper member comprising of a metal material. The bumper member has a predetermined transverse cross section and a predetermined curvature. A strip bumper structure is fed into a forming assembly along a line level. The bumper structure has the predetermined transverse cross section and an essentially straight longitudinal configuration. The forming assembly has a driven support roller and a pair of driven cooperating flexing rollers. A first roller of the pair of flexing rollers is positioned to deflect the bumper structure out of the line level. A second roller of the pair of flexing rollers is mounted to revolve about the first roller. The support roller and the pair of cooperating flexing rollers are driven for feeding the bumper structure between the pair of cooperating and counter rotating flexing rollers. Revolving the second flexing roller about the first flexing roller flexes the bumper structure between the support roller and the first flexing roller imparting a permanent longitudinal curvature to the bumper structure.

A shock absorbing material comprising an AlnullMgnullSi series aluminum alloy having high strength and showing excellent energy absorbing property when compressed in the axial direction of extrusion is obtained. The shock absorbing material of the invention has a hollow cross section, mainly comprises a fibrous structure and can be manufactured by press quenching just after extrusion followed by aging. In the press quenching, press quenching under air-cooling advantageous in view of the dimensional accuracy or the cost can be adopted. Further, the shock absorbing material of the invention has excellent cracking resistance to a compressive load in the lateral direction as well as in the axial direction. The shock absorbing material of the invention is suitable as side members or bumper stays in the frame structures of automobiles.

A polycarbonate resin foamed molding having a density D of 0.6 g/cm3 or less and at least 30 (kg·cm/cm3)/(g/cm3) of a value E80/D obtained by dividing an amount of energy absorbed through 50% compression of the molding at 80° C. (E80 kg·cm/cm3) by the density of the molding. A shock absorber for a vehicle includes a core of the above molding, and a skin covering a surface of the core.

A method of fabricating the composite metal-and-plastic components of an antiballistic grill for an armored vehicle. Each component comprises a core in the form of a length of structural section with layers of plastic against each side bonded to the core by heat and pressure in a mold comprising two halves. The object of the present invention is simpler and more economical lamination in the fabrication of non-flat work with a metal core. The core is electrically heated to a prescribed processing temperature by regulating a current of electricity, whereby the resulting heat is employed to soften to a prescribed extent adhesive between the core and the layers of plastic to be bonded to it.

A bumper of synthetic resin for use in an automobile includes a core, and an outer layer covering the core. The material for forming the core includes a main component produced by pulverizing a recovered bumper which has been formed using a polyolefin-based resin composition modified by an olefinic elastomer and which has a thermosetting synthetic resin coating film on its surface, and a polyethylene added to the main component. The material for forming the outer layer includes the polyolefin-based resin composition modified by the olefinic elastomer and the polyethylene in a content A.sub.2 which is smaller than a content A.sub.1 of the polyethylene in the core forming material (A.sub.2

This invention relates to improved front and rear fascia of a motor vehicle having improved flexibility, wherein the improved elastomeric composition used in forming the fascia includes a neutralized sulfonated elastomeric polymer, a polyolefinic thermoplastic resin and a preferential plasticizer. The formed fascia has an elastomeric-rich inner core which is composed of a blend of the neutralized sulfonated elastomeric polymer being plasticized with a preferential plasticizer and a polyolefinic thermoplastic resin, and a thermoplastic-rich outer shell which is composed of a thermoplastic blend of a major portion of the polyolefinic thermoplastic resin and a minor portion of the neutralized sulfonated elastomeric polymer being plasticized with a preferential plasticizer.

Energy absorption elements for automotive vehicles are obtained by winding filaments in the form of a continuous wire impregnated with polymerizable resin in such a manner that the turns are wound parallel to one another in horizontal planes about a detachable core of complementary contour, so as to obtain a member having a closed-loop contour; the energy absorption elements may constitute closed-contour members for producing two or more automobile bumpers cutting said elements at predetermined locations.

Bumper bars are shaped from easily workable relatively thin gauge sheet or strip steel into bumper bar shell profile provided with a horizontally elongated body portion and spaced apart integral upper and lower flanges of substantial width extending freely angularly from the body portion, and opposite end portions turned angularly away from the body portion in the same direction as the flanges. The body portion and the flanges are heat and quench hardened throughout their major extent, thereby providing the bar with a beam strength and yield strength to withstand bending stresses from repeated impact forces of a high order of magnitude without significant damage, and the opposite end portions are maintained free from heat and quench hardening as warpage control areas and thereby maintaining the bumper bar free from detrimental warpage.Apparatus for carrying out the method is provided.
